Hypocrisy or irrelevant?
« on: March 25, 2015, 08:09:29 PM »
We've had a bit of a tongue in cheek go on here about someone in another place who moans about Chesterfield but doesn't actually live here.
But is that any worse than a council chief executive charged with the responsibility of selling Chesterfield as a great place to live and invest in and earning a six figure salary in the process who lives 25 miles away?

I can't see any difference this and with the people who design the road junctions, taxi ranks etc.
Most of them don't live in Chesterfield and don't have a clue.
Or is that 6 figure salary part of it. They are supposed to know ??

If the council chief is supposedly 'selling Chesterfield as a great place to live' then maybe he/she should be promoting that by living in Chesterfield.

If someone already lived within an easy commute before getting the job, probably with children at school, wouldn't expect them to move. Councillors are the policy makers and they have to live (or work or own property) in the borough they represent

TBH if the person is good at their job, I don't think living outside the town is a problem, unless they live a stupid distance away.

The person who makes the final decision regarding the proposed Gas extraction in Calow lives in Bristol!

Who has the right to dictate where a paid employee lives (unless it's a live-in job)? They are not accountable to the electorate.
Supposing I got a job with High Peak BC? I couldn't live in both my workplace and my ward.

There's a huge difference between a 'job' and being the main man

Burrows is the main man.

At school our headmaster lived at Ashford and I don't believe that was an issue

Nope David Shaw was still in charge and Bowen hadn't been there long. The only grudge I might hold would be how he has treated some of my former colleagues.
