Post by: Sorastro on October 24, 2023, 11:38:17 AM
O.K. I won't.......

It's been very quiet on here these past few days, no doubt some of you have possibly had more pressing things on your mind lately, but every now and again it's nice to hear from folk and know your still out there.

I won't mention the weather. I'll mention my taxi  (y)
Spent most of Friday sat in it, but wasn't getting very far LOL.
Took me 2 1/2 hours to get from Chesterfield to Bolsover.
I've heard much worse stories.

Friday daughter took granddaughter to part time work in the a.m. before the upheaval and she works right up Chatsworth road!!

Things were very bad when she came out {12'ish} so she had to walk down to Morrisons, up Walton road and down through St. Augustines it took a long time to get back home to Hasland.

Hubby and I braved the storm and cleared a grate which was threatening to spill over and flood a nearby bungalow. I asked for flood bags for the elderly resident. Twice i went round our village checking roads and feeding back to residents. The following morning saw us on one road which had been flooded, cutting the estate near it off. We went round all the grates and cleared what we could, some were just 'solid'
It was a terrible day! :(

We escaped all this weather as we have just got back from 3 weeks in boiling hot China, with our son and his family who are there for a couple of years. We heard all about the horror stories....but are glad we are now back home again...

Glad you're back safe and sound.
Last few days weather didn't affect Chezzy too much if I'm not mistaken (y)

Well it's certainly got warmer as the snow starts disappearing, and the schools are open which surprised me as they usually use any excuse not to.

It appears we have gone full circle, Storforth lane seems to be now back flooding on a regular basis and has now been joined by Horns bridge which makes travelling from junction 29 impossible at times.
I've driven in all weathers over the past seven decades and I can't remember a time Horns bridge was impassable, so called road improvements usually tend to make matters worse.

After the last storm which left flooding in our village we went onto one of the roads which had been badly affected. We checked all the drains and they were blocked! Some were unblock-able by us and need the council to come out with the correct equipment.
As for Horns Bridge and Storforth Lane one would think that the engineers would have sorted those two out by now!
On a personal note we are fortunate not to be at flooding risk but our lawn is certainly squelching as we walk on it.
I know we have a lot of heavy rain battering us these days - however we will no doubt be short of water during dry spells ( if we get any!)
