HELP STOP THE CLOSURE OF THE SPINNEY CARE HOME CHESTERFIELD
« on: January 28, 2020, 01:14:55 PM »
Derbyshire County Council are carrying out a consultation to close 7 Derbyshire Local Authority Care Homes including The Spinney, Chesterfield. This is the sole surviving dedicated local authority residential care home in Chesterfield Borough, Brendon house, Derwent House and Red house already previously closed down.  This will lead to the loss of 37 beds including 5 ensuite rooms and 3 double rooms. The care provided at the Spinney for my relative is excellent and to be displaced after over 3 years would be incredibly traumatic, this sentiment is shared by many fellow residents, some of who wold be displaced for a second time.
DCC have had a survey of the building (a copy of which is yet to be provided) and estimate the indicative cost of work in the first 5 years at the Spinney would be £1,720,305.  Until early 2018 the CQC report gave a rating of GOOD, then following a lengthy period of temporary management the  CQC 2019 report gave a rating Requires Improvement, but also noted 'The Spinney has had extensive environmental refurbishment in the past 12 months this helped ensure people's needs have been fully met by the design adaptation and decoration of the premises.

Vulnerable elderly people are being kept in hospital because there are not enough places for them to go to be cared for, it could be your parents or grandparents next.

There is a petition on change.org Help to try and stop closure of The Spinney, if you feel able, please help us and sign it.
