local bricks

Not sure where to put this but they are mostly local and I'm going to need a bigger wall.

You have been busy poppy. Are any of them from the Horns Bridge bridges?

When they pulled the old football club down I was asked if I could get hold of any of the old bricks.

I bet when you were "assembling" them you were singing an old Pink Floyd song... ;)

Hi OC, I am doing some research into local brick works for the history group and thought I had better try and find a few examples. I've found quite a few and OH said he would make them into a wall in the garden. Only used about a third of the ones I have accumalted so far.

Hi Pete, The Wasp Nest Brick Co bricks were used to build the football stand and I heard that a few fans have a Wasp Nest brick on their mantlepiece. Wasp Nest bricks were used to build st Helena School too. I'm not sure what bricks were used for Horns Bridge but if anyone does know could they let me know please? I do hear OH muttering "another brick" on a fairly regular basis :)

UPDATE:

Finally got round to calling down Palterton Lane and had a walk down the old track.
Found an old 1850's? Byron brick in an old manhole type thing in the hedge bottom  (y)
When I got home I thought about the old white sink I'd took out of the out buildings on our yard.
That used to be sat an bricks. So I dug one out from behind the greenhouse. It's Byron too, probably 1950's?
The older brick is darker in colour and slightly smaller than the newer one. Our house will be built with the newer bricks  :)

Will drop these off for you next week Poppy. If you still want them  :)

Perhaps that's why they were used in mahholes etc. Things where exact size didn't matter so much.

That's interesting. I've never heard that before. Thanks for offering to drop them off Fly. I will add them to my brick path and paved with bricks area in the back garden.  :)
