My son recently dug this bottle up from his garden. It is complete and in very good condition but I cannot find any information on the company. can anyone enlighten me as to the company and its history for my young grandson. thanks.

P.S. It still has some of the contents in it which still smells sweet and of lemonade after all these years.

Chesterfield Discussion / Glapwell Bevin Boys.

Can anyone help me with this request.

Neil.
Dear Mr Bridgewater,
Thank you for replying to my daughters E mail, sent on my behalf.
As she has said I'm sure, I worked as a Bevin Boy at Langworth (MUST MEAN LANGWITH) prior to being transferred to Glapwell for coal face work. I helped to face out when the first weight came on. I worked night shifts packing and drawing off until demob.

I am interested more now than I was then ,as to the depth, district &  face number of the seam I worked. I can only for your information ,and mine ,describe how I arrived there every night. Leaving the cage, walk to doors then ride a paddy ( encased cable ) sitting back to back, alighting half way,and descending a very steep long drift, then turn right to walk the roadway to the face seam about 3ft-6ft high.
We are struggling to get any information, maps or dimensions, from the coal authorities, you are, I am afraid, my only hope.

Thank you for your time.
yours sincerely,
G R Morton.

Chesterfield Discussion / Saint Augustines Mount
« on: January 07, 2013, 09:45:08 AM »
Can anyone give me a date or any other info for this please.

Turnbull Close.

Boythorpe Colliery.

I remember quite fondly the mountain at the bottom of Saint Augustine’s Mount or the ‘Gussies’ as my paternal grandmother lived on the Mount at number 45.

I played on there as a child and often wondered what it was, it was of course the spoil heap of one of the Boythorpe collieries and was I suppose of no use and an eyesore until someone had the bright idea of removing it and using the newly formed land to build on. I had seen this done in the 1970’s when Barlow Lees colliery red spoil heap was removed and turned back into agricultural land.

So a few years ago the machines moved in and removed the mound and built Turnbull Close in its place.

I don’t have all the details nor dates but I am sure someone will furnish me with some more detailed information in due course. I am ever indebted to Mr. Jackson for supplying me with the photographs at http://www.oldminer.co.uk/Chesterfield/St_Augustines_Mount.htm

Many Thanks.
Old Miner.

Old Chesterfield / Woolies.

Hi there.

Just had a look at the photograph of the revamped 1980's Woolworths before it went to the new precinct.

Does anyone have a photograph of the original one that stood there?
I remember it well with the big old light globe fittings which could have been converted from the old gas ones.
