Was Informed that Homebase is shutting at the end of the January,
due to lease being up, and the landlord will not renew, because they
require the land. the landlord being Chesterfield Council.
looks as though they are going to relocate somewhere else in chesterfield.
How True is it.?
Slacker, can you shed some light on this mate ?
Sounds as though they are going to Run a Road through to the PC World
Retail Park, now that would be a good thing judging on the recent parking
problems during the sales.
-
Not heard anything. Didn't know council was the landlord as much of the land round B & Q is privately owned.
-
Homebase closes on the 28th January. The landlord is not the council but because the council want the land, he decided to triple the price if they wanted to renew the lease which homebase head office was unwilling to pay. They are not relocating it is closing for good. And it is because they want to run a road through that is correct. alot of people are being made redundant because of this....
-
So does this mean the council, or someone, is going to pay over the odds for the land to put a road in.
Sorry about the job losses if this is the case :(

Thanks for the info, Be a Shame if it closes for good, leaves it wide open for B&Q.
What I Posted, I was told by an Employee, and that Homebase were looking for
an alternative site.

when was it you were told if you don't mind me asking? and is it a current employee in chesterfield? don't post the name if you don't want too i can probably deduce it from thier initials things may have changed since I last spoke to them tho

Who is the landlord?
-
If Ghosthunter is who i think it is (putting 2 and 2 together and making 5) I think he will know the facts.
Be a shame if it does go, the New B & Q is rubbish in terms of customer service.
-
Was told Tues 27th.

lol! now i know why u were staring at me in sainsburys :P my apologies mate have only just come back on here now
on the homebase front the store manager has an inkling they are going to look for new premises in around 6 months time in chesterfield but are closing this one and making most people redundant apart from management
-
They should move into the old Tesco building. That's still empty. And probably terribly expensive to lease....

that idea was banded about just after Tesco moved. There were plans to move Argos and Homebase in there together but it never came to fruition.
-
I think I've mentioned this before in another place. I'm 99.9% certain that the 'old' Tesco cannot be used for retail purposes, one of the planning conditions for the new one.
Perhaps Slacker could ring one of my former colleagues to confirm?
-
Neither CBC nor DCC would be able to justify spending the amount of money required to put a new road in. Firms like Tesco take over towns bed-cause they do have the amount of money to spend on such things.
-
I've heard that Tesco is good at buying land and then just leave it unused for the sake of killing competition. I didn't think that covered stores like Homebase and Argos.

no talk of it it is happening. they are having a store built where the old focus do it all used to be on ravenside
-
Cheers for that - any idea when it will open?
-
September 2012 is the scheduled opening but I assume they will try to get done sooner

Hope they intend providing better access in and out of the retail park, or it'll be a right PIA - at least when Focus were there they didn't attract a large customer base! ;)
-
Went to Ravenside today to Pets at Home and was impressed how the new Debenhams site was coming on - looks quite big. This picture was stuck on the fence so I took a shot with my phone.

This isn't good B&Q will now have the monopoly won't it as Wicks is slightly different in what it sells?
-
Also, add into the mix that Screwfix is opening up a store in Chesterfield. Not sure when or where it will be, but I did hear Derby Road.
-
Screwfix is opening next to the Gym on Derby Rd, opposite the flats, just before the retail park. Opens 8th Feb, 10% off everything that day...we had a leaflet through the door.
I think they are good if you want a specific screw, (oohh madam), but a limited range of other products, most trades people would rather use them instead of B&Q.
The steel frame has gone up for Debenhams, looks like it might be a decent size. Don't know where the chavs will go for their shopping though. ;)
-
What's The Small place Next to Debenhams, seems a Small Steel Structure Has been erected. ?
-
TK Max was on original plans, not sure if that's still on
-
Thought TKMax were going into MFI? Though presumably if a road is now going through there that building is going as well?

I prefer Screwfix over B&Q, even though they are both owned by the same parent company.

Retail chain 'The Range' have applied for change of use for the Homebase store to allow them to sell toys as well as their usual lines... which is DIY/ furniture etc I believe.
-
Thanks for that twduk
Oh, and welcome to the forum :)
-
Yo :) twduk. Welcome to ChesterfieldOnline :D
I thought you'd disapeared into cyberspace.
Welcome aboard mate.
I presume this was in the DT notices, and there ain't no new road being built.
-
i have heard that home base will be either relocated at marham vale or at the old tesco site is this true
-
Welcome Karl too ;)
I've not heard of any relocation.
-
Hi and thanks Pete and Fly... and no just been busy with work lol
I read that The Range were applying for change of use on the planning section of the council website by the way. I've also heard from a different source that Starbucks are looking to open 200 outlets this year with Chesterfield been mentioned as a proposed location for a drive thru Starbucks.
I'll also use my current presence on this forum to announce a new sweet shop called the Candy Cabin lol. Opens in the next two weeks. You can like it on Facebook if you wish....oh and its on Chatsworth Rd.
