Bradbury Hall was such a magnificent building. Such a shame it had to go. :(

This was a beautiful place. Would have made a great venue for weddings etc even after it was filled with snooker tables!

Funny thing, as I remember, in the 1960s it was used as a canteen for Robbo's workers.

It did used to be owned by Robinsons, Bradbury was a family name too, I think there was a William Bradbury Robinson (he might have been Mayor at some time). Mike Watterson of snooker at the Crucible fame bought it and turned it into a snooker centre renaming it the Bradbury Club in 1984. Shame they flattened it. :(

A cousin of mine had her wedding reception there in the late 80 early 90's.
Me and Our_Lass once went into the Bradbury Club, bought a drink, looked around, gave the drinks away, and walked out LOL
Felt like being in a youth club. Never went in again :D

I went in when it was a club around 2002ish met my first boyfriend there haha.
Was sad to see it go, and that garage that was just further up was a shame that had to go too. It is getting harder to remember what it once looked like the photos bring back the memories though so thanks :D :D

I played in the Bradbury Hall for a couple of weddings, that would have been around 1963-ish. The dance floor was horrendous, with knots in it like the Himalayas. I also lived almost directly across the road (with my parents) for probably five years or so in the mid-late '60's. Having not lived in Chesterfield for thirty years, and being a very infrequent visitor, I was totally gobsmacked to learn (just now) that it's not there anymore.
Thank you for the opportunities to look at the pics, Pete, it's a valuable job you do. On this occasion I might have preferred to remain in the dark, I suppose. Many thanks again.

When i worked at Robbo's I decided to go to Brad at lunchtime to have dinner with my wife, only to find out that we couldn't sit together in the same room as I was a worker and she was office staff.
Workers had their dinner in Bradbury hall, office staff had their dinner in the york hall and directors and upper management had the dinner upstairs in the William room.

It made sense up to a point but I offered to take my overalls off and still I wasn't allowed in so it was definitely either segregation or snobbery.

Possibly a bit of both Bill, I doubt many would follow that rule these days when things seem more relaxed about issues such as this.
