I had to go in to Britts when I was office junior for Halifax Building Society circa 1976, for such things as spotlamps for window displays and the like.
Definitely the inspiration for the two Ronnies "four candles" sketch.

Britts was very much like Kirbys (Auto Electricians etc) that was on Lordsmill Street. Both shops more than likely stocked what you wanted - it just took them hours to find it!

I used to go to Kirbys a lot when I was in t'motor trade and I always joked (?) that I'd better take a flask and some sandwiches!!
