Title: I.D. to vote
Post by: Sorastro on March 29, 2023, 07:36:30 PM
Just had my Poll card through the door today for the star wars day elections, mines in the bin already.

It says on the front you don't need to take this card with you to vote!
yet they require {photographic} evidence for you to vote.

Reminds me of that old Arthur Askey gag:- Man walks into the bank and says he wants some money out of his account, the teller says "Yes sir have you any proof of identity?" the bloke whips out a mirror from his pocket, looks into it and says "Yep that's me alright!!!"

Still can't beat the old gags.

I look forwards to these days, I will be a poll clerk...long day, but get paid for it!

We use postal votes but I think this identity malarky may put some off voting

So do we (I'm a royal mail pensioner - I need to look after my pension!)

It appears over 26,000 people were turned away from voting for not having photo i.d.
Most returned to vote but over 9000 didn't.

I just don't understand how 26,000 people, having been told multiple times what's required on polling day, still turned up empty handed!
I can't imagine anyone of voting age not having at least one form of photo i.d. on them.
Passport...driving licence....bus pass....blue badge....works i.d....the list goes on.

Was it down to forgetfulness, laziness or just plain stupidity on their parts?

I was a poll clerk in Dronfield, and turned no-one away...all voters had their id.

I don't have any photo ID. I don't have a car so have no drivers license. I don't have a passport or a blue badge or bus pass or anything like that so o can't vote then. Oh well I'll find something interesting to do instead.
