Chesterfield Discussion / Horns Bridge Roundabout
« on: February 12, 2019, 07:46:17 PM »
Today for the third time in a month I almost got wiped out on this rooundabout.I came down from Hasland and joined the bypass just before the island and took the  middle lane  towards the Tesco roundabout.Just as I was about to pass the town centre exit this  idiot in the outside lane flew past me and went  towards the Lordsmill Street roundabout. As i said thats the third time I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.
No wonder there are so many accidents there as you cannot legislate for lunatics.

I have been walking round there a bit recently whilst the other half is at the baths and it has been OK, but that has been mid morning.PersonallyI just cannot see how the huge spend can  be justified  as there is not the room to alter very much.
The number of estates being built between Chesterfield and Clay Cross will not help matters either.

I was up there walking this morning  and traffic was going both ways on St Augustines  Road  and there was no workmen or  lorries  or diggers to be seen.

Everybody should know that anything Chesterfield  Football Club is involved in will turn into a disaster regardless of how much involvement they have in it.

I can hear it as well.I wonder if its anything to do with the housing estate being built  just below the garden centre  on Dunston Road.
The noise seems to be coming from that direction.

I think it was 1959 when I took my motor bike test and the test office was  right at the top of Elder Way where the Coop food  hall is.
You did a figure of  eight down Elder Way along Knifemithgate,Cavendish Street,Saltergate back down Elder Way right at the bottom  on to Rose Hill  up Rose  Hill East  ,right on to Saltergate and back to Elder Way.
You had no idea where the examiner was but at some point on the test he would jump out into the road from behind a lamp post or car for your emergency stop.I managed to pass first time.

Those were the days.

Thanks for that.I usually go after 3pm into Donut or   pick wife  up on Town Hall if she has been shopping.I have to say after nearly 60 years of driving I have never paid to park in town.I generally walk it or on the odd occasion caught the bus.

Hi Fly could you answer me some questions on the above for a driver  in Chesterfield not disabled.

1.If you drive down Rose Hill East can you turn left.
2.If you can can you go up Soresby Street and Glumangate .
3.Again if you can can you go along Knifesmithgate onto Cavendish Street.
4.If you want to drive up Stephensons Place can you only do that by approaching from Church Way End and not from the Donut End.

Hi geebee,
I have just had a walk round Newbold tonight and went past the club at 7.30pm and it was in darkness.I think we can assume it has closed.

In the early seventies we went regularly on a Saturday and if you were not there by seven it was impossible to get a seat.Oddly I was in Corals in Newbold the other week  and I overheard a couple of chaps saying it was closing in the middle of December but I am not sure what has happened. It would not surprise me if it had.I will update  if I hear  anyything more.

Mine were made by Siemens in Germany and installed by them from their Nottingham office.

Alsatian  I am in exactly the same position as you. When I had both meters fitted  I was unaware that  they are not compatible with other suppliers.I have  since changed suppliers  and I am being pestered to have new meters fitted.I flatly refuse to  budge until the second generation ones arrive(if  ever).Until then I will continue on my handa and knees with torch in hand pressing the number 9 button  so my  usage figures appear.
