General Discussion / Christmas Plans
« on: December 11, 2023, 07:55:36 AM »
Our Christmas follows the same routing as it has for the last few years.
Daughter and her partner comes to stay ( unless he's working then it's just daughter)
Christmas Eve afternoon  - a meal out, back home to chill with a glass of something stronger than tea or coffee.
Christmas Day and Boxing Day at home chilling, chatting, watching TV. Maybe a game of dominoes -
Quiet and for some boring I suppose  but we love the family time.

Chesterfield Discussion / Christmas Lights
« on: December 11, 2023, 07:46:33 AM »
Has anyone seen the Christmas Lights in Chesterfield?
I'm just wondering if they are impressive this year.
Driving through the main Street in Clay Cross I have to say it has always looked festive however I can't say if the rest of the town which would be Market street I suppose it decorated.

Chesterfield Discussion / Ravenside
« on: October 31, 2023, 06:52:05 PM »
We alll probably saw the photographs of the Ravenside flood. Terrible! After the last time I had it in my mind we were told it had been sorted and wouldn't happen again??
Yesterday we went there as I thought I had read shops were open.
Not true.
It's awful that these shops have suffered so much damage.
I only went for some Ink for my printer as Tesco don't sell it now.
Curry's were obviously closed
Amazon have won again!!

General Discussion / Flu and Covid Injections
« on: October 06, 2023, 05:05:33 PM »
It's that time of year and the newest Covid strain is very much around us all. Some seem to breeze through having it whilst others are really poorly.
We've had our Flu Jab at our GP but went to our local Chemist 'drop in' for our Covid. It was quick and easy.
Many don't have these injections for different reasons but I've always had mine.
Fingers crossed I don't go down with either!!

Chesterfield Discussion / Derbyshire County Council
« on: September 21, 2023, 04:41:31 PM »
Oh dear I think we are in for a big 'squeeze' makes a change from a big freeze but the money issues with our D.C.C and others will probably mean much needed work won't ( can't) be done.
They are on the edge of Bankruptcy along with other councils :(

General Discussion / Gardens
« on: September 17, 2023, 05:45:48 PM »
Slugs?
We've had a record year for flipping slugs in our garden. I know they do some good but I've never had so many of the huge orange / grey ones! :-? They destroyed my Marigolds. It's never happened before.
The Hedgehogs don't eat them either instead they share their food with them :-? :(

Chesterfield Discussion / Not new but -
« on: July 30, 2023, 10:31:09 AM »
We went into Chesterfield on Saturday. I was stunned to see so many market stalls vacant.
Only one stall on the bottom market a maybe four at a guess on the large top market
WOW

General Discussion / Energy Companies
« on: June 17, 2023, 07:33:52 PM »
We've been with OVO for a good few years. never had any issues and enjoyed the 5% interest rate on accrued monies - except -
After the winter we were not far off £600.00 in credit so decided as winter was over and we hadn't used our heating for awhile to reclaim some.
Problem!
We were apparently only allowed ! £104.00 back as we needed to keep three months in credit to cover our future energy bills!!  >:(
How very DARE THEY presume that we couldn't pay our bill - we pay by direct debit and have never been in debit.
I stewed on it for awhile then emailed a strong letter to their complaints.
Seriously within less than FIVE MINUTES hubbies mobile was ringing - he wasn't aware i had just emailed them.
I heard him say 'who is it' OVO? Hubby came into my computer room looking a bit confused.

Anyway to cut the story short the chap from OVO had seen my email pop up Obviously read it - and phoned straight away.

We got our money, but I requested he leave £200.00 in as a starter for next winter.
My gob has been truly smacked - That has to break all records!
