Awww!!! I miss Swallows. My Mum used to work there :)
-
My friend Kath used to work there too. it was a lovely department store. I liked it better than John Turner's.
-
John Turner's - now that takes me back. In my day that's where the girls used to wait for the boys when they were out on a date. I can see them now in my mind's eye, dressed up to the nines, feet firmly together, waiting on the corner...
-
Well actually now you come to mention it, that's where I used to meet my chums prior to going in Red Lion on Vicar Lane :)
-
Was that the one where money was put into a tin and sent down a tube to the cashiers' office?

Didn't the Co-op do that - scared me to death as a kid!
-
Aye, the Co-op had that system - enthralled me as a kid.
-
Was definitely one of the other outfitter type stores as well, thought you old 'uns may know [runs for cover]
-
Yes it did :)
Now then Slackly - just watch it! Old 'uns indeed. You owe me a beer for the insult >:(
-
For old and young un's alike.
Supermarkets still use the same system!!!!

Morrisons use it still, pop the money in a "pod" and it gets sucked up. Ive been known to send a bag up for good measure but it got stuck, they have been known to have money flying about because the lids came off th epods. Only notes and vouchers were sent up the rest stayed in the till

Now there's an incentive!

Maybe from your side of town, Pete. Us Newbolders used to meet under the Co-op clock :)
-
So that's why you lot were always late!
Never did trust that clock ;)
Also, like Gert, I spent a lot of time in the Red Lion...
