On BBC2 now. Looks interesting, and followed by 70s music prog.

Yes, I enjoyed it, I was just a child in the seventies but as a child you tend to have fond memories where as an adult you might just remember the austerity, etc.
I've seen several reports recently about the seventies and how many people today blame Thatcher for the materialistic society we have today, but as was mentioned in this programme, she was just a product of the seventies herself, and much of the materialism was well under way by the time she came to power.
Interesting to see that the miners were relatively underpaid at the time and their claims for pay rises that let to so much disruption seem valid, even if the country couldn't afford it.
I missed the following programme as this one prompted me to go and put on a Bowie CD at full blast.

I remember the power cuts and 3 day week but I'd forgotten how much stronger the miners' position was than in '84.

Me too - was a motor mechanic at the time and had to work on cars using workshop vehicles' headlights and no lifts, so had to work underneath using the pits!

I was busy bringing up my daughter back then and lost touch with much of the chart music of the 70's.
I was then brainwashed into NKOTB and Wham as she grew older.

I think TOTP should be revived with a modern day "Pans People" equivalent.
In fact the lack of a raunchy Pans People type dancing group could have contibuted to its sad demise.
Scary to think that clip was 38 years ago. I was 15 - no wonder TOTP was so popular with spotty faced, hormone ridden, long haired oiks (rather like me at the time) ;D

In the 60s & 70s singles sold in massive amounts. Crucially, big groups like The Beatles released non-album singles. Don't think in the present day of downloading the charts are that relevant. It also bugs me that half the songs are somebody featuring somebody else. Presume one of the parties is just the person remixing an old song.
