This one's got folks all fired up - doesn't do owt for me - what do you think?
Wonder who paid for it? ::)

I've seen a similiar thread elsewhere.
My honest opinion, absolute load of rubbish. :o
Destination Chesterfield want their bumps feeling.
Somebody's laughing all the way to the bank.
Probably the designer.
I seriously can't for the life of me understand the logic behind it :o
-
Apparently Look North (or Calendar) interviewed someone on the subject who they introduced as a Chesterfield Councillor. He wasn't.
-
That were me... :-[
:P
-
Using my own time and effort. Welcome to Boza ::)
-
PPS. Market days are Tuesday and Friday. I think 8)
-
Nah - there's a market on Thursday for bric-a-brac and
antiques rubbish... ;D

In Boza pillock ;D
-
You really need to articulate yourself better Barry - one hardly knows what you're on about... :P
-
Your sig says it all ::)
-
Unfair! You know to whom I refer with that line.... :)
-
Fight!!
-
Come on Andy, Chesterfield and Boza lads have a tradition going back many, many years for getting into a scrap...
TBH - I'm just winding him up :)
-
When Vicar Lane Shopping centre was designed one of the clear briefs (from Bill Flanagan) was that we didn't want an indoor concrete shopping centre because if you were in the middle of it you could have been anywhere, we wanted something where people would still be able to identify they were in Chesterfield.
Hence why you get the views ofthe Spire, the Market Hall and the hills.
This sign is exactly the opposite.
Take off the word Chesterfield, substitute any name you like (yes even Boza) and nobody would know any different. There's clearly nothing other than the word that identifies Chesterfield.
-
Exactly Jon. This design falls at the first fence - good design is about communication - and without the words it says nothing.
-
Using my own time and effort. Welcome to Boza ::)
Which is a damn sight better than those they put up last year. I wonder how much was spend building a small sandstone wall and having a plaque on each one saying 'Bolsover'. I know of at least 3. IMO, what a waste of money.
-
This looks like a dead aspidistra to me....

This wasn't so bad.... was it?

Sorted!!
-
I think the red wavey things represent tax payers money flowing down the drain.
ooops, better not mention wasted taxes again or I'll get accused of being some sort of Daily Mail reading fascist. Lets have lots of these signs and sod the old and infirm!
-
And I thought the money came from the European Regional Development Fund ::)
-
And I thought the money came from the European Regional Development Fund ::)
Isn't that funded by our taxes?
Anyway, just drove past a council housing van with the same red swirly lines.....please don't tell me its all part of a wider rebranding project!!!!
On another thread recently, the one about Queens Park and funding, I was asked if I could make the difficult decisions when it came to deciding where public money should be spent.
It really p's me off when people get on the moral high ground claiming that councils / govts have it so hard and people like me who want to cut spending, have it in for the poor.
When are they going to get it into their heads....ITS NOT A CHOICE BETWEEN THE POOR YOUNG AND THE POOR OLD, ITS A CHOICE BETWEEN THE POOR AND CRAP LIKE THIS!!!!!
Rant over. :)
-
Calm down dear, it's not worth a coronary.... ;)
-
It has sort of got my attention today. Has CBC bought a new fleet of re-branded 61 plate vehicles.
There all over town. Least they have the spire logo on the doors.
-
So they're not 100% sure that the new logo positively identifies tham as CBC vehicles - that's not much of a vote of confidence in it, isn't it...?
-
My thoughts exactly :)
-
I think there maybe two logos - one for the council and one for the town.
-
Isn't that a bit silly. Surely Chesterfield will always have a council, why have different lodo's ?
-
Not silly at all.
Chesterfield = lovely town
Council = dubious...
:D
-
Fair point, I'lll shut up now :-X ;)
-
Cllr John Burrows, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council said: “We want people to receive a consistent message about Chesterfield through the branding they see before they visit the town, when they arrive and while they are here."
Have a look at your own vans, Councillor!
-
The new logo probably looks great on the designer's monitor and I'm sure a marketer could explain why it is perfect, but, in the real world where folks just see the signs as they drive past THERE IS NO SPECIFIC REFERENCE TO CHESTERFIELD!
Just my two bobs worth.
-
Which reminds me...the other day on Jeremy Vine, a council that was spending money sponsoring their local football team, (I think it was Crewe but can't remember), advertising themselves, as if they need to, but had recently closed down a couple of old peoples homes......pass me the wall to bang my head against a bit more......(but at least the council leaders got free seats in the directors box.)
-
Sounds a bit dodgy to me...
I suppose you'd have to see the savings and expenditure involved. But I get your point - the old get the sh*t end of the stick again. >:(

That took me by surprise, rather, in the current climate. They reckoned to have done it for the increase in public awareness that can be gained, for local services. Like the old folks' homes. Er, hang on...
It was Tranmere - and the councillors get everything they deserve, if they have to go to watch them.
-
Enjoy.

:) :) :)
-
Classic, made me LOL ;)
-
;D ;D ;)
-
Apparently, on another forum, regarding peoples attitudes of the new signs,
a member refers to the people of Chesterfield as, (Joe Bloggs. What do they know) ???
I say apparently cos I can't see the reply staying long, you never know ::)
-
>> I can't see the reply staying long
I don't know about that - after all they need as many folks as they can to keep a thread going.
-
Before you know it, RoboCop, Terminator and Wall-E will be in town.
Corporation Chesterfield will be taking over ;D
And unemployment will still be low cos the Corporation bring their own workforce in :o
-
The Destination Chesterfield logo has been around a while now I remember it being discussed on the forum before the last election. I think the vans stand out a lot better than they used to.
-
Yep, they've got a spire on the doors :-)
And a funny squiggly thing down the back quarter.
-
>> I think the vans stand out a lot better than they used to.
Why do they need to stand out - its not a commercial enterprise?
-

You're starting to sound like me.

What are those links about? Or are you pissed?

Very good point Pete!
-
Very good point Pete!
But no harm in showing that there are plenty of people around tidying up grassed areas, repairing houses etc
-
What are those links about?
Failed attempt at humour.
Global Corporation's, taking over and re-branding Chesterfield.
Or are you pissed?
Might be now :P
-
But no harm in showing that there are plenty of people around tidying up grassed areas, repairing houses etc
True. But show Chezzy's Spire, not zig zags.
-
Does Boza show the castle on everything?
-
No, but I think they should. It's what Boza is infamous for 8)
And Dennis Skinner ;D
-
Although I lampoon the signs above, I think there's more to this town than a particularly shite piece of ecclesiastical architecture, and I'd be pleased by any effort to "sell" the other good things that we have here.
-
Comparing the printed DT news item entitled 'Sign sparks Facebook row' (page 5, April 19) with the on-line version on the DT website, there's a revealing paragraph missing from the newspaper:
He added: “Tell us where he lives and i’ll(sic) Google it [and] find something negative to say about the place.”
The 'He' in question (underlined) is Cllr Burrows. If correctly reported on the web site, I find that an incredibly childish reaction from the leader of the town's council - perhaps it's time for some gardening leave...
-
Methinks Mr Burrows should grow up and leave comments like that in the playground where they belong.
Good find Dave.
-
DT do seem to drag up the same people who have negative comments to say on their Facebook page, think one of them posts (or used to) on Chesterfield Forum
-
Interesting letters page in the DT this week - "Is nobody big enough to admit signs are a mistake?"
As I drove through town yesterday I noticed that everywhere the new 'swoosh' was used, it was backed up by the crooked spire logo - in the museum windows, on the 'Bin it' banners, on council vans. Everywhere, that is, except on the 'Welcome to Chesterfield' signs.
Grow some, Cllr Burrows and admit you blundered.
-
What he said.
