Title: Jeremy Hunt faces calls to resign over BSkyB claims
Post by: Pete on April 24, 2012, 06:43:41 PM
"Culture secretary used secret channel to pass information to James Murdoch on BSkyB bid, it is alleged at Leveson inquiry"

"…he set up a private back channel to Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation at a time when he was charged with making a quasi-judicial decision on whether to allow its takeover of BSkyB."

How impartial is he? Creep.

Another bent MP...

"…he set up a private back-hander channel to Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation...

But Cameron has given him his full backing...

I might be wrong (wouldn't be the first time!) but I can see him surviving.

In the first instance there isn't going to be the same media clamour for him to go. Sky can hardly launch a witch hunt against him when it was them he was trying to help, the BBC aren't going to want to upset the government any more than they do already.

Liam Fox's case was different in that he was in charge of the armed forces and all the brave men and women that the politicians use like pawns in their political games. The wider public understood what he did  and there was a mood  that he had to go.

Now if you ask the majority of 'ordinairy people' I think a) they wouldn't have a clue who Jeremy Hunt is b) wouldn't understand what the Secretary of State for Culture actually does and c) not really care about this case. If you look at it in simple terms what he was doing was trying to help someone who owned 30 odd % of a business attempt to buy the rest of it. Lets be honest most people are already under the impression that Murdoch owns Sky anyway. If this had been any other company and any other 'personality' would we care?

Add to that the fact that when Rupert takes the stand this afternoon he's probably going to say some very uncomfortable things for Messers Blair and Brown that the talking horse probably won't want to hear and I think the whole thing will quietly disappear bearing in mind that NI have already dropped their bid.

Finally his 'special advisor' has already fallen on his sword thus effectively taking the blame for the affair.

Stop Press
Apparently he's going to make a satement after PMQ's at 12.30 so by the time most of you read this I may already be wrong.

He's claiming that there was no 'back channel' but that conversations did take place that were not appropriate???????
Ahh it's ok because he didn't know about it till yesterday

Then they should sack him for not being in control of his department.

Not that I believe a word of it.

New story online:

Jeremy Hunt visited News Corp in US as Murdochs considered BSkyB bid

James Murdoch told David Cameron News Corp would support Tories soon after Hunt's US trip in 2009, documents reveal

"Jeremy Hunt spent five days in the US holding meetings with News Corp at the same point Rupert and James Murdoch were first deciding whether to bid for Sky, official documents reveal."

"Almost immediately after Hunt's trip, James Murdoch visited David Cameron in London, and privately told him that News Corp had agreed to switch support to the Tories in the upcoming election. Hunt then became culture secretary in the victorious Tory government."

The more you dig, the more shite you find with this lot.
