Title: New Morrisons Bolsover.
Post by: Fly on April 28, 2012, 05:11:13 PM
Been to see the plans at the public consultation event.
I thought Morrisons were going to incorporate themselves
within the existing council office buildings.

Guess not. It's a total wipe out of all Sherwood Lodge, apart from the Peace Garden.
According to my diagram below, the Morrisons Store, and petrol station will be about here.
I didn't know they were having a petrol station till today.
I also like the entrance/exits onto Hill Top, Oxcroft Lane, and directly into town centre.

All in all, i'm warming to the idea, mainly because it's a 5 minute walk from our house,
bang on for fuelling up, and as Morrisons have said, "We are primarily a grocery store,
we only sell a modest non-food range, geared more towards impulse purchases"
Therefore, it should have a minimalistic impact on other shops in the town.
TBH the Coop could do with the competition. Stop them being so pricey.

I occassionally call in the Co-Op for a pie for my dinner if I'm working in the area but they always get it wrong or its cold.

Last I heard the police station was moving to the grounds of the college in Clowne. Personally I can't see why we need a Morrisons when there's one at Staveley

Like us Simon, you have a car. Think about where I live.
A lot of the people up the road from me don't.
Plus the buses from Bolsover to Stavely are near non existant.

Some more stats from the documentation I received.
49% of Bolsover people don't food shop in Bolsover

In general, Bolsover people shop at:
Bolsover, 8.2%
Clowne, 20.1%
Shirebrook, 9.2%
Alfreton, 7.8%
Mansfield Woodhouse, 7.1%
Sutton In Ashfield, 6.1%
Staveley, 5.2%

That's 55.5% of Bolsover people doing general shopping elsewhere.
Clowne, 20.1%, that's where we go every Saturday, but we also nip down Boza first.
FarmFoods, Fultons, Butchers etc.

Personally, if I lived in Bolsover, I'd be very grateful it's Morrisons and not Tesco. Wherever they open they wipe out local trade by selling far more tha just food. They're closer to us in Chesterfield than Sainsburys but we prefer to go to the latter.

I was interested in seeing where Bolsover people shop. Chesterfield isn't mentioned, surely some of them must shop here?

Is the Morrison's presentation on line somewhere, I'd like to have a look.

I looked online but couldn't find it.
I'll scan the full document tomorrow.
It's only 8 pages.

Morrisons at Brampton has the fresh food area improved but it doesn't alter the fact that the aisles are too narrow and the parking inadequate

Thanks again Fly. If it goes ahead as described I'd say that was a big 'plus' for Bolsover.

It could be a big boost for Bolsover. There didn't seem to be much there when i was last up that way  (admittedly 4 years ago) Could bring a bit more to the area in the way of jobs too.
When i was living up that way CO-OP and Gateway/Somerfield were the main shops along with Farmfoods for your frozen.
Will give co-op a run for their money in my opinion.. Actually where are they based on the somerfield site? If so what happened to the co-op building....I remember them building that with the carpark because at the time my parents wanted some of the land to extend the garden as we were on Oxcroft Lane.
