On tonight at 9pm BBC 1 - A year in the life of Chatsworth Estate.
Got it on 'series record' OC ;)

Nice one alsatian :) I will just get in to watch it!
Has anyone been following the documentary on the indian ocean, BBC 2 Sunday nights.
Have been enjoying this one and this week in Somalia - they had stacks (and i mean STACKS) of money at the side of the road - it was their bank!! :o
Simon Reeve who is doing it, ended up with his money in a wheelbarrow ;D ;D - not worth a lot though, just a load of old paper really ;)
-
You wait ages for a good documentary then 3 come on at the same time. Looking forward to 56 Up as I've been watching the seven-yearly updates since 21 Up. The Seventies has also been an interesting series.
Part of Chatsworth was filmed at the Town Hall as the present Duke's great grandfather was mayor 100 years ago. Don't look for me though I didn't make it to that one.
-
Nice to see we had early notification of this. 3 hours earlier than some places for example!! ;D (can't find a little devil smillie!!)
-
I shall also be watching the 56 up programme, Andy. Talk about watching your life slipping away. pfffft.
I'll catch up with Chatsworth later :)
-
It's the Chatsworth prog for us tonight.
-
Whatever do you mean Jon? (http://www.ichesterfield.co.uk/images/devil2.gif)
-
Horrible. Bunch of creepy, grovelling minions caught in time warp.
I daren't say what I think about the Devonshires.
-
I enjoyed it.
@ Slacker --- you missed out on the nibbles then??
@ Pete I liked the old Duke he was president of Matlock Mencap where I volunteered years back, great old fellow used to mix in with us all. Not sure about the young one - I wasn't happy about the car park fee on the Park which he implimented >:( ps ---- @ JR's post --- would there be anymore smilies coming forth at some point
What's the 56 up prog. please anyone ?????? :)

It's a series of documentaries that have been made every seven years, firstly about some (can't remember how many) children aged 7 and then 14, 21 28 etc etc. This series, entitled 56 Up, is a catch up on them when they are aged 56.
Last nights' prog was very good - it's on again next Monday at 9pm.
-
I think I'll give that one a go - the Chatsworth prog isn't for the likes of me... :-X

I need to watch the 3rd one as I was on the A1 at the time coming home. 2nd one was good with that bloke who bought that island and lives the with 120+ giant tortoise.
-
yes I wondered how he managed living alone, but quite an enterprising old fellow wasn't he.
I wouldn't go to Somalia, no chance. I read the book written by the british couple who were kidnapped by the alshebab, terrible story, but at least they got out alive, strange though the book never did divulge how much was paid over to the alshebab to get them out.

I'll have another go at this ;)

hey dudie O0 --- you did it! Well done and thanks O:-)

On again to night

Anyone else think they are trying to portray it as an everyday tale of country folk (cue the Archers theme) rather than it coming over as the landed gentry?
Thought the bit about the Duke walking to Bakewell to have his hair cut was a bit far fetched as was his insisting on driving himself (in his environmentally friendly Toyota Prius note) to various engagements.
Also think some of the senior staff have a bloated self importance just because they are working at Chatsworth.
-
Totally agree Jon. I watched most of the first prog and found myself getting a bit wound up at some of the bollocks being said by both the employees and the Duke and his wife.
Didn't bother watching last night, not interested in the way the story was being told - phony propaganda as far as I can see. ::)
-
Yes I thought it strange about the hair cut in bakewell - and the tree planting, if I remember right the old Duke had a chauffer to bring him to our do's, but once inside he mixed and mingled with all and unless 'one' knew who he was you would never have guessed.
They have many staff who have been in their employment for many years though so I suppose that tells us something.
-
I watched the 1st episode and found it quite interesting, I got bored with last nights' programme :(
-
I bet the Duke really enjoyed meeting that bunch of gushy WI grannies on the roundabout in the rain just to dump a shovelful of soil on a tree.
I'm afraid I got bored with it last night, dozed off at one stage...
-
I missed the first one, watched last night but found it boring, only watched for the local curiosity. Next Monday I plan to paint a wall and watch it dry. ;)
-
Come round ours Kev - I been watching our wall for over a week now and its still not dry... :))
-
:)) :)) :))
I'm not going anywhere near yours with all those bloody roadworks and parking restrictions.
-
All roadworks gone! Hooray!
Obviously the residents parking restrictions apply to you out-of-town chappies. :P
