Sad site today as I walked past the old ground, it is being smashed up big style.
I knew its time had come, but it still felt really sad.
Hey ho... :(
-
I caught a glimpse through the entrance off Cross St, big mess big time, floodlights down soon EH

Brilliant photos Stuart - you have the touch.

Thanks, Pete. With the input of a few nutters like me it'll be the most photographed football ground demolition in history, although from only two vantage points. We'll have three hundred pics of the side of the stand from Cross St, with a nog-off digger in the way. The lights will be the thing to see; if anyone hears of a date for their demise, let me know. Odd to think that the bungalows on St Margaret's Drive will be getting the evening sun for the first time since they were built - and that view across the field from St Maggie's Drive to Compton St hasn't been seen since 1899!
-
Saw the ground yesterday and felt so sad about the demise :( Gone are the days when I lived on Compton St and was able to listen through the window to the match, also attended some matches too there. Hmmph
-
Pete, are you getting fed up with the noise coming from those giant mechanical woodpeckers? ;)
-
Yes
-
@ Stuart, not nutters Stuart, photo's like those will be good for the local history society ;)
-
Stuart, I live halfway down Compton Street and we back on to the ground, if you want take some shots, you are very welcome.

@Stuart - I'd check how much Pete is charging as an admission fee before you take him up on his offer!! >:
-
A tenner'll cover it... ;)

I took Pete up on his very kind offer this morning. I had the benefit of a cracking view, and Pete got to watch me climb up to it. Great comedy.
Here's the link to the Flickr page with six of today's on:

It's quite a sight. As the stand comes down, folk on Compton Street are waking up, looking out their back windows and thinking "Which silly chuff left that town there?" ;D

>> Great comedy. Not at all, Tenzing ;D

Drove past tonight, yes it is sad, however, Pete, what's it like to see the sunrise in the morning.?
and has been mentioned before, those on St Margaret's drive will be able to grow something now.

Didn't you video him LOL :)

Funny you should say that - it's possibly the most obvious change since the hut thing (where the TV cameras were) was pulled down. In our middle room you couldn't see the sky except when you were stood right by the window. Now you can see the sky from anywhere in there.
The other thing is that the land on our side is a lot higher than the other side of the stand, so we won't have the new houses looking directly at us - so we'll keep our privacy - and they won't have to look into our loppy back yard... :)

Nice to see you back Mycul - fleeting visit , or here to stay? :)
-
Not much left now, just a few bits of outer fencing (they can't touch these because of the wildlife that lives in the ivy), the lighting towers and a bit of land leveling to do.
I spoke to the chap in charge of the demolition the other day and he said they were coming to the end of it and that soon the last of the fencing would be removed.
The really interesting thing to me is the view - there are whole streets and major buildings that have been hidden for over 100 years that we can see from our upstairs windows - and with the tv camera "hut" gone, our gardens and back yards have never seen such light.
Dependent on how well the new houses sell, it will be just a memory in a years time.
-
Meant to have a gander the other day. Neh mind :)
-
Pete- Can You get me three 'Chesterfield Wasp ' bricks from the old Stand/Ground please.
maybe a pint in it for you.
-
Stuart, get yer camera to Cross Street - they've taken the "prison" wall down - amazing views. :)

Trying to get back on, but since I went down to working 3 days (sorry, turning up for 3 days) I have never been so busy.
Am involved in 3 volunteer projects, playing golf again and started Crown Green Bowling, never been so busy.

Bl00dy 'ell I had enough trouble getting close to the jack on the flat, never mind introducing a 'humped playing field'!!! ;)
-
He'll have plenty of time to practise on the hump, I've seen him play golf, it won't last!!!!!
