Title: PPI
Post by: therealjr on May 17, 2012, 08:24:18 AM
Has anyone looked into this and got any money back?
Reason I ask is that I've always ignored it because I'm 99.9% certain I've never taken any out but yesterday I had a cold call fom one of these companies offering to chase payments. The woman claimed that even if you didn't take the PPI out, the banks took it out anyway and added it to your premiums/interest payments.
I would have thought that highly illegal and therefore unlikely but where the banks are involved ......................!!

I'm with you on that - didn't realise that the banks took it out anyway, might be tempted to look into it.  >:(

I imagine it was just her "sales patter".

Most loans are repayed by direct debit so as long as you are aware what the DD should be, I can't imagine a bank changing it without you noticing.

We get countless spam and junk about this, we too have never took out PPI so it gets binned. But if we did have a claim I certainly wouldn't use a third party to get a back. There are loads of places on the internet where you can download a standard form from, fill in and send off, don't waste money on money grabbing, low life, ambulance chasers, which is all they are really.

I might be in on this one. I have a vague memory of seeing this on a statement and wondered why I had broken the habit of a lifetime as I never do that sort of thing. Will check when I get home tonight.

In a similar situation I was asked if I wanted extended warranty on a house phone I bought for about £30...

The law on advertising these 'services' was relaxed a few years ago, that's why such adverts plaster our TV channels, especially during the day when they're most likely to be seen by those who think they deserve something for nothing. A short while back it was Cash for Gold, now it's Payday Loans. Soon it'll be something else, something equally unsavoury that panders to greed. The goverment won't stop them because it needs to boost consumer spending.

>> I'll do up to the speed limit on whatever road i find myself on. If the horse types don't like that, i suggest they get back into the fields or bridleways.

Bit harsh - with the best will in the world, even using fields and bridleways, sometimes a rider has to use a road.

I think, when you are out in the country, you should respect their way of life.

IMHO of course.

Agreed. Too many drivers who think a speed limit is a target speed irrespective of weather or other road users.

I'll slow down for horses, because its the horses I feel sorry for, not the riders.

I did claim some PPI back for a car loan I once had. The loan was £3k, and I got £1k back, so its worth doing in my opinion.
The banks have set money aside for it.

Stood watching the guy fitting 4 new tyres to my car at home this afternoon (still loads of tread left, but rubber splitting after 5 years  :( ) and the phone rang. It was someone from a company called Fast/First Call Solutions (?) so, as I'd nothing better to do 'strung him on'. Although I haven't taken out any loans, only have one Credit Card (which is paid up in full each month) he still said I qualified for a refund. I even told him that I keep accurate records of my spending and ensure that the correct amount is taken from my bank each month.

When he asked which credit card I had I told him that originally it was an EGG card but it had been bought out by Barclaycard. He then informed me that EGG were one of the banks that had been fined for mis-selling!

Anyway he promised it wouldn't cost me a penny, even if they were unsuccessful, and someone is calling me back on Tuesday.

How on earth, after giving him all these facts, can he still consider that I may/do qualify for a refund?  q?

When we bought our car, brand new from Autoworld, we were 'advised/told' we neeg GAP insurance.
I've just Googled this and find that we weren't 'advised' that our own insurance company could offer this.
Possibly at a cheaper price  :o
I always wondered why the GAP insurance was for 3 years, but the loan was for 5  >:(
Think we may have been duped  :-\

Got my car through Wellcome Finance - they quoted me a price with PPI, which I said no to, and then quoted me a price with GAP insurance. Guess what - exactly the same monthly premium - which I accepted.
Turns out they were one of the worst offenders. They sold me a loan with PPI which I did not want or need under false pretences.
Check your original loan agreement if you still have it, although being sold GAP insurance correctly, in itself, is not a valid reason to claim.

Threw reams of paper away after the loan was paid in full, last year.
Still have the GAP papers though.
They were in our 'folder' with the, Service, MOT, test certificates, etc stuff.

I didn't realise I could have got similiar cover from elsewhere. It's the only 'brand new' car we've ever bought.

Almost as much as I hate the horse riders that have taken to wearing hi-vis jackets that are clearly designed to make you think the are Police from a distance, but it says "Polite" and then "notice" in small letters underneath...

Not to mention the flourescent striped 4x4 going down the motorway that everyone slows down for, only to see its not the police, but Highways Agency trying to feel important.

Lack of observation. It's not their fault that drivers can't recognise the difference between their vehicles and police vehicles. What would you expect them to drive when they have to carry equipment and tow vehicles on to the hard shoulder of motorways?

Errr, how about a vehicle thats all flourecent yellow for example. They deliberately paint their vehicles to look like police when theres lots of other things they could do to stand out.

Lack of observation - again.

HATO vehicles have black/yellow 'battenburg' chequers on their sides. Police have blue/yellow, paramedics have green/yellow.

HATO vehicles also have red/amber beacons and 'Traffic Officer' written across the back - not their fault drivers can't tell the difference.

I'm sure they can when on their tale, but when 500 yrds down the motorway, doing 70, I think most prefer to keep their eyes on the road.
If its so important to be seen, why no paint their cars bright pink.....we all  know the reason.

Eyes on the road or observing the type, speed and position of other traffic?
