What do you think?
-
Looks a bit like a kids drawing has been superimposed on it :(
-
Derbyshire Times confirmed it is graffiti. Looks a damn sight better to me - significant improvement. :)
-
Here's the one on the Hasland by-pass LOL
-
I'll say this - the longer this goes on, ie the politicians taking no notice of the people, the more likely we will get a Liberal council back.

You think it'll get that bad?
-
I don't know - just a flippant answer - but it does show that they consider themselves in charge - not public servants.

Even though they were in control when the Destination Chesterfield logo was approved ???

Yes.
Don't credit the average person with too much intelligence... ;)

But not the road signs, eh?
-
I'm pretty sure they were decided then, never been any discussion since I've been on the council
-
Could you find out? I'm certainly curious.
-
See what I can do
-
Cheers And :)
-
Me too.
Didn't Cllr Burrows state "the final decision was made by Destination Chesterfield’s business leaders and the council is only one of many partners with Destination Chesterfield."
So it appears to have been a decision made by the handful of men on Destination Chesterfield's board - a largely unelected bunch.

Didn't Cllr Burrows state "the final decision was made by Destination Chesterfield’s business leaders and the council is only one of many partners with Destination Chesterfield." "Don't blame me - it was their decision."
There - I've fixed it for you!
Enjoying the newly-modified signs!

Slacker, while you're at it, how about letting us know the cost of the re-branding. How much, for example, has been paid to a marketing company to come up with that design.

Nail firmly hit on the head there, Pete.

On the DT website:
John Burrows, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council and vice chairman of Destination Chesterfield, said: “While we can’t condone graffiti, it demonstrates the depth of talent that we have in Chesterfield. I have no intention of going on to the highways to wash it off myself.”
He added: “I’m not a graphic artist, I sit in these meetings and take the advice of professional people. That someone has taken the time to do this demonstrates the strength of feeling that the spire should be better represented on the signs.”
What a total and utter plonker Cllr Burrows is. Just a few weeks ago he was defending the new signs despite all the opposition in the media. Now he's saying the spire should be better represented on the signs - how two-faced can you get. Pity he's not my councillor, I'd happily go out and campaign against him.
-
That's politics Dave - never miss an opportunity to jump on a bandwagon if it might get you a few votes.
:D ::)

You and Pete formed a new mutual admiration society - you seem to be in agreement a lot just lately?!! :D

It won't last... :P
:)
-
Yes, it will.
Damn, we've just disagreed.
-
Told you! Typical right wing answer!

Just read over at the DT website that they may be bowing to public pressure after a grafitti artist put spires onto the new signs
"Following the positive public response to the addition, Destination Chesterfield, who commissioned the signs, have vowed to modify them over the coming months."
Result! :)

I read this on a Destination Chesterfield blog:
Pete Swallow, Chair of DestinationChesterfield said “It is important to remember the original purpose of changing the signs was to promote the events and activity happening in Chesterfield. DestinationChesterfield has created a marketing opportunity out of the signs which will drive footfall and spend into the town supporting the local economy.
"...has created a marketing opportunity?" So it's all been a great success??
-
Sound like a bunch of numpties to me
-
It's nice to see that the Man in the Street is listened to, but the listening process has come rather too late, and will cost us** money in having the signs altered. They must have been the right signs three months ago, or the councillors, local business leaders and others who make up the Destnation Chesterfield organisation wouldn't have put them in. The signs haven't become more wrong since someone decided they were right; rather there has been a massive failure to communicate. Will any individual stand up and say "It was my decision, and I got it wrong?"
**Yes, yes - European Regional Development Fund - but whose pockets have they got their hands in?

Ill bet given some time we could come up with al list of over 20 businesses in Chesterfield that use the spire in some form or another as part of their identity...
Given a lot of time, we could come up with a list of the twenty or so who don't!
-
There's a new design on the sign as you come down the Hasland by-pass.
Sorry about the photo, it wasn't me who took it, it was my passenger :)
-
So they've not incorporated it into the new identity - just shoved it into a corner to appease the masses?
-
You saw it here first ;D
It's not on the one inbound on the Dronfield by-pass.
Perhaps Banksy has been at it again :)
-
Maybe, hard to tell. Was your passenger drunk... (only kidding) ;)
-
No, just a bit late with the shutter LOL
