I saw something white out the corner of my eye move on the causeway opposite, just ahead of me.
A Dalmation backed away from it's owner, turned and ran out into the path of the car.
The dog was spun, knocked forward, and rolled onto the road. Awful sight :'(
It lay there for a few seconds twitching and shaking, then managed to get up onto it's feet looking at it's owner as if to say, sorry I've been a bad dog. The car driver was straight out of the car to assist with, well, what ever he could.
The dog owner also had an older dark brown labrador with him on a lead.
The car driver took the lead to this dog and the dog owner picked the still stood, shaking, Dalmation in his arms.
If anybody knows anything further, I'd love to know. It's not something I'd ever want to witness again,
and it's been playing on my mind all day :(
It wasn't the car drivers fault IMHO, plus the dog wasn't on a lead.
The car litterally stopped in yards so I'd say he wasn't speeding either.

Its not nice to see or even be in a car when it happens.
Many years ago my mum was driving and I was in the car and she hit a German Shepherd that was running loose. Dog was fine but car headlight was completely smashed. Horrible noise when it hit.

I just hope the dog is Ok, it took a head on shoulder bang :-(

I'm not a doggy person but I hope it's OK too.

Awww poor thing I would have :'( cos I'm like that, at least the dog stood up so hopefully it will recover.
Dogs should be kept on leads until in the fields!

Hear hear! All these folks who think it's clever/good to let their dogs off the lead, dogs - when all said and done - are one step away from being a wild animal and can run off at a whim. In the 13½ years we had Jaide she never went off the lead when she was anywhere near a road or children/people.
Oops - forgot about the one occasion when I left the gate open as I was going to work, SWMBO heard a familiar barking at the front of the house and thought it sounded like Jaide. It WAS Jaide - she'd escaped from the open gate and was stood 25 yards up the road barking at a paper lad (who was sh1tting himself) :o Everything turned out ok - her bark was worse than her bite, phew! ;)

It's possible the Dalmation slipped it's collar whilst backing away. I didn't see 'why' it backed off.
Must say though, been to Carr Vale pond this afternoon, Our_lass fishing :)
The number of people with dogs off leads was unbelievable.
The pond might be a little off the beaten track, but it's still a public place. Leads please.
I don't want your dog sniffing my carrier bag after my sarnies >:(
