Our central heating/hot water combination boiler keeps going wrong and I don't want to pay anyone else another £80 to come and look at it. So we are thinking about having a new one installed during the summer months because we think we are more likely to find a special offer or something.
Does anyone know how much they cost? Can anyone recommend someone to fit one?

We use Blue Flame (on Chatsworth Rd). Never had a problem with them yet.

I was given a ball park figure of £2½k by my plumber, but, given that we still have Ye Olde Back Boiler a 'straight swap out' may be cheaper.
I can recommend our plumber - Chris from Highfield Gas 07798 712 932 ;)
Good luck Pete

My sister had to replace hers last winter. British Gas quoted about £3K. She found a private plumber who did it for about £1000. A decent boiler costs about £800, then labour, which shouldn't be too much for a straight swap.
I'm seeing my sis on Wednesday so I'll ask he for his details.
If you get a condensing boiler, which is what you'll probably get these days, if the condensate drain goes outside, make sure you ask the plumber to insulate it, as they freeze up easily in the winter and your boiler will cut out when you least want it to.

Just had mine replaced last week, from old copper tank system to a combi and resited upstairs from kitchen, took 2 days but new gas supply holes drilled throught wall for vent and he fitted new valves to radiators(thermastatic) condensating drain fitted into bath drain i think eliminates the freezing problem.
The boiler was a Germam and after installation my taps run faster when filling the bath also a wireless thermastat that can be moved from room to room and power flushed the complete system fitted some kind of magnetic valve to help agaist rust i think.
Was well impressed i would ring for a quote he is called Mark 07866316167

Cheers folks - plenty to be going at there. :)

Hope you get sorted Pete.
My mums having her coke fire out tomorrow after her gas poker connection leaked and was capped. Dad worked in the pit and regular coke allowance has been given - mum has rejected all suggestions up until now to have it changed.
It's going to be so much easier for us all to be honest as care agencies don't have many staff who can light fires.
Mum will also have a combi boiler installed, but it's the Rykneld Homes who is doing hers.
