I had to go in to Britts when I was office junior for Halifax Building Society circa 1976, for such things as spotlamps for window displays and the like.
Definitely the inspiration for the two Ronnies "four candles" sketch.

I used to love the fantastic smell of leather in Legards  :D

Britts was very much like Kirbys (Auto Electricians etc) that was on Lordsmill Street. Both shops more than likely stocked what you wanted - it just took them hours to find it!

I used to go to Kirbys a lot when I was in t'motor trade and I always joked (?) that I'd better take a flask and some sandwiches!!  ;D
