I think I'm right in saying that the majority on here think David Cameron's Big Society idea is a complete and utter waste of time.
So read these views on it:
1. "aspirational waffle".
2. "designed to conceal a deeply damaging withdrawal of the state from its responsibilities to the most vulnerable".
3. "Introduced in the run-up to the last election as a major political idea for the coming generation, [the Big Society] has suffered from a lack of definition about the means by which such ideals can be realised.
"Big society rhetoric is all too often heard by many therefore as aspirational waffle designed to conceal a deeply damaging withdrawal of the state from its responsibilities to the most vulnerable."
if the Big Society is "anything better than a slogan looking increasingly threadbare as we look at our society reeling under the impact of public spending cuts, then discussion on this subject has got to take on board some of those issues about what it is to be a citizen and where it is that we most deeply and helpfully acquire the resources of civic identity and dignity".
Everyone agree?
These are the views of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
I think I'm right in saying most people on here have negative views of religion.
Does that make the Archbishop's comments any less valid?
-
I'm not, ahem, a big fan of religion as you know, but at least it's someone that can get some publicity when airing their views on Cameron and his dreary, useless crew.
Plus a few "believers" might listen to him.

Are you suffering from sleep depravation ;D
I might try to answer tomorrow when I've had time to digest what you said ;)
-
The Archbishop's views would only be rendered less valid if he began his expressing of them with something like "You know, I was on the blower to God the other day, and he told me that..."
-
And he told me that - "I'm not really god you idiot, f' knows where you got my phone number from" LOL Yp

He's not the Messiah he's a very naughty boy

Would the Churches make a better job of running the country - I would be one of the first to be burned at the stake for my sins ::)

The Church of England is oft refered to as the Conservative party at prayer, so probably not!!

>> is oft referred to
Ah, sweet poetry - how doth thy silken tones delight my weary heart...

"Negative views of religeon" is a broad statement, I have negative views of catholic priests touching up their choir boys, I don't belive in God, or hypocrisy for that matter.
But I do think they have good points too, particularly about family and so on.
I don't think they have a right to think they can interfere with state affairs, but they do have a right to express their views just like the rest of us. As for the above comments, they are probably prettty much spot on about the Big Society, or BS as it could be known!
