Reply from the Town Hall to my email.
Hi Trevor,
Has the council released details of taxi ranks on the day yet.
Barry :-) Celia's Taxis.
Barry,
It's DCC that are organising that part of the torch relay but I can tell you that access to Elder Way will be restricted for taxis only who will be able to rank up on the right hand side of the road. You will be able to do a 'U' turn at the junction with Knifesmithgate [which will be barriered off from 09.00] and exit back by turning left onto Saltergate.

Barking mad LOL :))
-
I'm on 2 weeks holiday.
Started officially Sunday.
So hopefully not going to have to go into town Friday.
By the way Fly, is yours the X reg estate?
If so your nearside brake light is out (if that was was you who came through calow about 4pm ish today).
Diversions for Stagecoach see www.stagecoachbus.com (http://www.stagecoachbus.com)
-
Yes it is/was.
Bulb changed. Cheers for that :-)
-
Think Knifesmithgate will be closed on Sat 30th for a time as well.
I'll update this info tomorrow, when I've re-read the notice on the lamp-post at the 2A bus stop.
I got called on business before I'd read it all. Something to do with a military march.
-
When exactly IS the torch going through Chessy? Dentist app. on Friday and someone has told me it is on Friday??? ???
-
From the council website.
The Olympic Torch Relay arrives into Chesterfield from Hady Hill at approximately 12.45pm. It travels up to St Mary’s Gate, along Church Way and Knifesmithgate to Rose Hill and then down Clarence Road to West Bars. It then continues along Chatsworth Road and heads up to the top of Walton Road where it turns along Matlock Road and leaves the Borough at 1.30pm on its next leg to Matlock.
-
What day Fly?
-
Friday
-
mmmm app at 11am --- normally park up in rose hill
-
mmm sounds a bit dodgy, can't you get someone to drop you off/pick you up ?
-
You could always jog there with the Torch bearers... :))
-
I hope I've got this all wrong, but I can see the town centre gridlocked for a couple of hours >:(
-
It sounds like there will be total chaos around the town. Please take extra special care because, apparently, it will also involve the
hospital being locked off with nobody allowed through the gate to enter or leave for an hour and a half.
-
Taxi driver i spoke to today said he booked himself off tomorrow as town will indeed be busy.
We are going to see the torch with Laura in tow, her nursery are going to see it anyway but its a nice time we can have together :)
-
Friend of mine went to a full day meeting last Sunday re the torch going through Derbyshire. The security arrangements are unbelievable and yet I suppose understandable.
-

:P
-
I can't get anyone to take me cos the app not for me and I am the driver ??? May go into town much earlier and have breakfast pre-app.
-

From the DT.
The squadron will parade outside the town hall at 11am.
They then parade around the town centre, ending back at the town hall about noon.
The Albion Rd car park will be closedall morning and Rose Hill and surrounding roads will be closed to traffic.
Also, no parking on Rose Hill before or during the parade.
-
Seen these sign's all along the route. They mean keeping it clear :-(
-
Seen these sign's on all side roads off the route.
Visions of tailbacks everywhere for a while ;D
I'll be in town for 9am, can't wait ::)
-
Thanks for info - that's even worse than I expected, I think the app. is going to be cancelled for a later date now, if wasn't a member on here i wouldn't have known about it.
Simply the Best !!!!!

Credit to the ChesterfieldOnline members ;)

Surely t'torch wont get as far as Town, cos its got to go through Boza first.
Someones gonna mistake it for a posh fag lighter and nick it.
Put it this way, if it gets as far as Calow, I might nick it.
Better watch me eyebrows though..... :))
-
That's just cost you, hope my lappy recovers from the spray of beer :))
What's worng with Boza ? Isn't Calow the problem ?
Owt coming from town never makes it to Boza.
Owt coming from Boza never makes it to town.
Jest, may I add ;)
-
By the way, if you wonder why I'm glad I'm off work tomorrow - I'm on holiday - apart from which Mum died on saturday- this is what bus drivers and passengers are faced with tomorrow. ???

Taking the camera to work tomorrow. If I'm sat in a gridlocked town, the pics will be here Friday night ;)
PS. I won't be taking the pictures, I'll make my passengers do it. They'll probably be as bored as me.
At least I've got the waiting time to add to the fare Yp
@Scimitar, I've never claimed to be perfect, albeit I'm near :-)
Oreight youf ? ;)

I was needing to get off derby road and past queens park swimming baths straight up past lidl and hoping maybe across to west street?
Not do-able do you think.
-
Definately not!! Will need to cancel me thinks!
-
Seems to be lots of schools closed so that the kids can go and watch the torch. How come they can close for this magnificent event that we are all meant to be obsessed with, but I have to beg on bended knees to take my kids out of school for a family holiday.
Oh yeah, I remember now, I'm not allowed to think for myself and can't be trusted to form my own opinons so the powers that be must do it on my behalf.

Just what I was thinking!! Yp

On the rank just after 9am, only me there :)
The Saltergate end of Elderway was already patrolled and coned off to other traffic.
I finally picked up after sitting there over an hour, when I got back, the barriers were up.
The security wagon was parked where they expected us to do U-turns ::)
Also, who decided that a display by a couple of Morris dancer troups should go on in front of the rank !!
Even though the road was blocked at the other end, some people still had to argue with the patrol men
.
Amazing crowds though. I've never seen so many people lining the streets.
Where's my photo of the torch, I didn't get one :( I picked up for Newbold about 15 minutes before
the torch was due, and had a booking from Whit half hour later. Couldn't see the point of going back to the rank.
There must have been 12 taxis on the rank when I left, and it wasn't very busy.
Overall, I personally didn't get caught up in too much of the traffic delays.
Quite enjoyed today overall ;)
Oh, seen your missus too Pete. She was helping the ambulance and paramedic staff.
Apparently someone had a fall and received a cut face, lots of blood :o

@Fly, spotted you turning on to Saltergate from Rutland Road about 14:20 - I was waiting at the lights going home ;)
-
Did you take the pics on your Moby, Fly. They are sharp and bright, seem good quality pics for a mobile, or did you have a camera hidden away somewhere........

8.1MP Kodak EasyShare C813 Camera ;) I hate the bloody thing. I'm on my 3rd LCD screen :(
Step daughter broke the first one on me and our_lass's wedding day. I didn't find out till the day after.
Had to borrow my mums digi camera for our honeymoon.
My moby's got a 2MP camera and still takes good shots though. But needs good light or the photo's look blurred.
