Got to town in the taxi for 9.45am, no rush, nowt happens any earlier.
10.00am. My phone rang, one of my regulars. Ashgate to town, £4
12.00pm. Picked same lady up on the rank back to Ashgate £4
2.00pm. Picked up for Dronfield. £12
3.45pm. Pulled of the rank and came home. ::)
Why are people not using taxis do you think ? Are they really that skint.
There's plenty of people in town.
Highlight of the day, being given £15 for a drink on our holls by my Ashgate old lady :)

Could there be any other reason?

Similar for someone I know who is a builder / handyman

Even if folks aren't really that skint, they are probably hanging on to what they've got because they have no confidence things will get better. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that generally in business, especially small business, there has been no confidence for over two years.

I took a youngish lady up Newbold the other day. £4.80.
She'd got her 2 young sons with her and said it's cheaper to take a taxi than the bus ???
No smart comments, I'm happily married ;)

I was in town about 9.00 this morning, very quiet.
I think theres a lot thats affecting peoples behaviour. People gone away on hols, people seeing first bit of summer deciding to have a day out / at the park, etc, people watching / going to Olympics, so not much normal business about.
When we went camping last week, got there Sat morning and loads of space on the camp site. By the time we left on Wed morning, place was rammed. The weather has a big impact on what people do and having been stuck in the rain for what seems months on end, they want to enjoy the sun a bit now.
I'm looking a bit quiet this week so might get round to doing a bit in the garden but hope I don't stay quiet for long.

Traditionally last week in July, first week in august is when most folk go abroad for their hols-did it not used to coincide with school hols, etc?
I thought I was fairly quiet on bus today - not really busy-but still took £200 ish - people buying megariders etc.Buts that over eight hours.Usually take a lot more than that in terms of money.
Usually Mondays folks renewing their megariders you can be taking double that easily.
I reckon loads of people have pissed of to anywhere overseas ,or even in this country, where the sun is shining,or not - can't say I blame them. >:(

Our intentions was to go to Cromford Steam rally this last weekend but as it was cancelled we opted for a day at Matlock Bath, lovely weather and we all enjoyed the day (especially the fish and chips! ;))
That was a kind thought of your regular Fly
