Title: Don't know who stands for what these days
Post by: therealjr on September 07, 2012, 11:53:20 PM
To be taken with a pinch of salt seeing as it's from the Mail but:

Quote: The revelation came as Labour signalled a lurch to the Left in the hope of attracting disaffected Lib Dem voters.

Sorry? Labour going left to attract Lib Dems?
Shouldn't they be going left to re-engage with their core support?

Tricky, ain't it?  ;)

Just to be safe, I'll align with anyone except the Tories. :)

Ideally attract the core voters but to win an election the party that attracts the centre / floating voter wins. I think it's a mistake to chase the liberal voters but the message from the doorsteps before the last general election from people who said they were voting LibDem (certainly in the less affluent parts of town) was that the believed LibDems were further left than Labour.
Labour members left the party (or at least became less active) during the Blair years because of a move to the right and LibDem members are now doing similar.

It seems like a good move would be for the Labour Party and the LibDems to bite the bullet and form a single party.
