Title: TV news reporters
Post by: Alsatian on September 28, 2012, 07:00:35 PM
In these times of austerity and cost cutting, along with the threats of global warning etc - why do tv news programmers continue to send news reporters to the four corners of the world?

Do they think that it adds atmosphere to the news item? I've just watched a report from Bordeaux regarding the Megan Stammer 'abduction' and the reporter could just as easily have been stood in the tv buildings car park!

Radio 1 did that at the start of this story.  Sent a reporter to Paris but the ferry went to Calias and there was no evidence of them heading to Paris.

I find it also annoying when there are 2 newsreaders and they have to take it in turns to read part of a story.

Radio?? Whatever happened to a bloke in the studio with a BBC sound effects record?

The one that amuses me is the football on a Saturday.
Lets take for example this Saturdays game between Norwich and Liverpool.
There will be a reporter for BBC1 for final score
A commentator for Match of the Day
A reporter for 5Live
A reporter (more likely a commentary team) for Radio Norfolk
A reporter (ditto) for Radio Merseyside.

Thats at least 5 people from one organisation to cover the same game.

Biff, bash, bosh, thwump.
Bit like an episode of Batman  ::)

Back on thread, absolutely no reason to be there at all.
Unless there's the chance of a realtime live shot of something.
Which they probably sell the copyright too, is that actually bad ?

I can't see any reason for reporters to be in France for this story though  :-?
