Title: Jimmy Savile
Post by: Old Cruser on October 01, 2012, 12:14:40 PM
The late Jimmy Savile's activities are now under scrutiny with accusations of his abuse to young girls - the papers are claiming.
ITV is running a documentary on Wednesday evening saying that the BBC knew of this?
'If' this is true then these people need to be brought to justice.

Always annoying when these types of accusations are brought up after death.
of course the laws regarding slander and Libel don't apply to the dead and they have no means of defending themselves.

i see they do these sorts of things when the person cant even defend himself.

To be honest, Its not like the courts or anyone else for that matter can do much about it. Why not just let them rest in piece.

Never particularly liked the guy, but admired his tireless charitable efforts.

Watched the ITV1 documentary 'Exposure' last night and there were some of his victims telling how they were abused by him, if this is true (and what evidence have we to decide categorically one way or the other?) it is truly sickening. It's just a shame that these accusations weren't aired prior to his death and he could have attempted to defend himself in court.

Some of his abused victims (plus one 'witness' of him groping a young girl in his dressing room) said that they hadn't spoke out earlier as they thought that, as he was a 'star', they would believe him rather than them.

He was also heard on a taped interview to apparently stick up for Gary Glitter, to me that says a lot about the man.

In one respect I agree that he should be left in peace - but - on the other hand his victims are still suffering.

I agree the victims need closure, the thing with todays society is more people are speaking out against abusers, having been a victime myself its a hard one to grasp will people believe if you told and whose side will people choose. If we do look at Gary glitter he was put away for his crime and was a generally famous person not all courts can be bought off with it.
On the other hand I would also feel that now he is dead he can't hurt anyone like that again!

urgh they are groping at straws anything for the media to get their mitts on -_-.
Just a pity not every other peado makes it to the news eh.... (sorry was a bit low)

OC I see it as making me a stronger person for being able to speak out about abuse, no-one should ever have to hide such horrific acts, yes it affects me but my God ive come a long way since then....

IMO Freddie is probably innocent maybe he isnt, would only take a court, judge and evidence to prove either way.

Bill Wyman was openly in a relationship with a 14 year old.

And any star with a groupie throwing themselves at them isn't going to ask for the birth certificate.

However many of Savile's alleged victims were vulnerable or troubled and it went on for years. Lot different.

"Comedian Freddie Starr has been arrested by Scotland Yard officers working on Operation Yewtree.
The 69-year-old was detained at his home in Warwickshire yesterday afternoon on suspicion of sexual offences. He was questioned at a local police station by officers working on Operation Yewtree, the Metropolitan police investigation arising out of allegations made against Jimmy Savile."

It's a lack of commas  ::)

Let's all start making a mountain out of a mole hill, drag as many celebrities into the equation as possible because everybody can see a way of getting some compensation out of this thing.

Agreed if it happened, then let's have it aired. The longer it goes on, the more hangers on will appear  :-X

Odd that the papers won't call him a dirty old man until anything is proved in court, yet they are prepared to stick their necks out and call him a "comedian."

Certainly seems to be a case of "anything goes" in the 70s. Think these were times when "adult" mags were getting more explicit and films were becoming more controversial, but never heard talk of pervy celebs.
My mate had a summer job at Eckington baths and once claimed Gary Glitter went for a swim there once. If it's true he could have had more sinister motives.

As Stuart I think said on another thread Freddie had a young woman with him at the press interview I wasn't sure if she was his daughter or partner, many stars go for the younger woman though don't they. Looks better for their street cred I suppose  ;)

2 'allegations' against him have already been reported by the media.

Must admit I'm a bit at a loss to see why Lord McAlpine thinks he's got a claim against the BBC. As far as I'm aware his name wasn't actually mention on the Newsnight programme it was afterwards that certain people like Sally Bercow put 2 and 2 together came up with 9 and named him on twitter. That's hardly the Beeb's fault is it?

It's a three sided thing isn't it.
people are accused who are innocent and people who are guilty can get away with it and there are then the victims who have to go through so much and then once brave enough to step forward never do get justice.
Title: Re: Jimmy Savile
Post by: emmz on January 03, 2013, 08:28:09 AM
I think most of it is because to most it can be so unbelievable that a person could do such a thing, to most people its still taboo to even speak of such things.
I hope that on some level the victims and everyone involved can get some closure and people can live with the choice they made!

it seems like every DJ I ever listened to happily, is now under investigation for stuff we can't even contemplate.
Yet the Rock stars from the same era "and lets face it, they did some serious Sha@@ing", seem to be completely unmentioned in these enquiries.
I'm sure some of our most revered Rock Stars have "slept" with under age kids.
What's the difference? Either way its wrong isn't it?
So why aren't they being investigated?

Good point scimitar and you are probably right, there may be some out there 'bricking it' right now.
It only takes one person to start the ball rolling.

Townsend as I recall claimed that he was visiting child porn sites as research for his autobiography because he thought he'd been abused as a child by his gradnmother who was mentally ill. He also claimed it was these incidents that led him to write Tommy.
Given that Paul Gambaccini is gay it's not the same as Saville et al.

Innocent until proven guilty Pete - AFAIK Gambaccini hasn't even been charged yet.

I know this is resurrecting an old topic but today the MP Nigel Evans has been acquitted of all the charges brought against him.
William Roche - not guilty
Michael Le Vell - not guilty
DLT - not guilty
Jim Davidson no case to answer
Jimmy Tarbuck  no case to answer.
Now either the British judicial system isn't very good at trying people who are in the public eye or is anyone thinking that were Jimmy Saville still around to have his day in court he too might be acquitted?

Sadly we will never know. There were some pretty bad allegations against him though TBH  :-\
Isn't DLT being re-tried on a couple of counts ?

Not enough evidence at times for historic claims, so they have to go on what bit of evidence they have and maybe it's their words against the famous person when push comes to shove.
As for Savile we won't ever know will we - still found him a creep though.

Off topic but meanwhile Oscar Pistorious has had a right grilling today, defense were trying to prove he wasn't sensible with his fire arms and trying to get him to admit he was at fault.
I just though O.P. sounded like someone who just panicked and began shooting.
The case goes on

My mum finally got to stand in a small queue of people waiting for autographs, she'd been a fan of his for decades.
He walked straight past them all and totally blanked them. She's not a fan now  :))

It's not from the ink Fly - it's what daily newspaper reported. Seems the BBC are judging him.
Not right IMO
