Title: Carr Vale viaduct and the Bolsover/Hillstown tunnel.
Post by: Fly on October 29, 2012, 07:31:33 PM
Firstly, great respect to these websites.
http://www.oldminer.co.uk/Carr%20Vale/Carr_Vale_and_Area.htm (http://www.oldminer.co.uk/Carr%20Vale/Carr_Vale_and_Area.htm)
http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/tunnels/bolsover.html (http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/tunnels/bolsover.html)

I've lived in Bolsover all my life, and have known about the viaduct in Carr Vale,
but never actually gave it much thought till now.
So with the info in the websites mentioned previously, "I've", managed to pinpoint the viaduct's location.
(It's probably well documented and on the net, I just wanted to see it on a picture.)
The entrance to the tunnel, which I have actually visited and seen as a kid, apparently it's buried now.
Had a play with an overlay of images and came up with these.

Left circle, viaduct. Right circle, tunnel entrance.

AFAIK an open air theatre and public garden  q?
Don't ask me to comment further, it would have been a swimming baths, if the old guys round the corner from me gave up their allotments and re-located. So much for progress. If Boza doesn't get a Morrisons I'll personally go round and shoo

Perhaps I'd better not say too much more ;-)

This: http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/tunnels/bolsover.html (http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/tunnels/bolsover.html) may be of interest, if you haven't seen it already. The whole website is a great way of using up the rest of your evening!

Not wanting to sound smart Stuart, that was one of the websites I gave praise to in my first post.
I do appreciate the input on the thread though. Cheers :-)

Many thanks for the welcome.

Neil, what fabulous looking dogs - are they yours? We sadly lost our little girl last year - that's her on my avatar.

Hi.

Sorry to hear of your loss I know how much these dogs mean to their owners.
They are both my girls. The long haired one nearest is Sasha she is 5. The one furthest away is Abby she is just 3. They are both friendly and mostly well behaved. I have a little border collie too Cassie but cant always get her out she is 18 years old and blind so a bit of a handful to keep an eye on.

Old Miner.
