Title: Ravenside shopping
Post by: Old Cruser on December 28, 2012, 03:33:12 PM
Another chaotic bottle neck at busy periods - just chaos there again today, just like the Cineworld/McD's on Derby Road. Surely it could have been thought out better than this for getting in and out.

Got to agree with you there OC, has wound me up on many occasion. Also, the B&Q entrance to the carpark is just pants - designed by a guy with dark glasses and a white stick?

Agree with you both. I hate taking customers to any of those 3 places, especially at busy times.

B&Q have that stupid hump with a silly narrow turn - I just go straight over and in the other way - can't be doing with it.
The R/Side - well what can I say, traffic coming out from all directions, can't park up because bays are blocked by cars queing to get out - really silly design

It should have had a one way system put in when it closed after the floods 5 years ago.

If you're going in from the Lordmill St roundabout end it's useful to go in via Hipper Street

It is easier to park on my drive on the Spires and walk into the town.
Just so you are aware I have a special offer price to beat the January sales

But it isn't easier to walk back there laden with shopping.

ladern with shopping then go to Tesco/Sainsbury`s - who goes into Chez to become ladern with shopping??
It is not the type of town, where that happens.  A few items from Next/Boots ...
But you can still catch the sales at a discount price, just for the January sales
Or you can pay a car park to have your doors scratched.  Then pay again to be repaired.
Better still, park on my private drive

It is not up to me what people buy, though if you want to see what is in the sales.
Have a look, there might be the perfect thing for you.
If you don`t have a look, you will never know.
Save all the hassel, park on my drive while you can

Don't Jest!!!!
I do wish, however,  someone would learn how to spell hassle.
And Slacker,  he has to mention it every post because evidently so far no-one believes it's the same fantastic opportunity / bargain that he does!

Would require road tax - I`m not sayin that the users of this board are not respectable, but
private land - DON`T need tax !!!

If you don`t have road tax, there are not many trafic wardens on the road - can easily get away with not having road tax whilst driving.  Your car will be parked off road without inspectors checking.

"can easily get away with not having road tax whilst driving" --6 points on your license and your car towed away. I think not >:(

The Ravenside is private land (similar to the Meadowhall Retail Park which has a camera system) and therefore has no power to charge a fine (unlike councils and police). They will send you a letter which looks like a fine but is actually an invitation to pay.

The only way they could get money off you is to sue under contract law as they have little signs up saying that by parking there you agree to their terms. they are unlikely to take you to court as they would have to demonstrate that their charges are reasonable.

Nothing to stop you being clamped on private land and getting charged a release fee though.

You get six points for no tax, six more for no insurance (can't be insured without tax). Find yourself banned.

Isn't that the other way round?
You can't tax a car unless it's insured?
Not sure I've ever been asked if a car is taxed when I've tried to insure it.

In November, we parked in the Wheatbridge Retail Park at 10.15.  We went into Dunelm Mill and bought some curtains and we left the car park about quarter of an hour later.  During the day, we found a problem with the curtains and at 17.35 we drove back to the car park, exchanged the curtains and left again less than 10 minutes later.

The following week we received a letter which contained 2 photographs of our car.  One taken as we parked up in the morning and the second one taken as we left the car park in the evening plus a fine of £70.  Fortunately, we had CCTV footage of the car parked on our drive during the hours in question and the fine (without any apology) was shelved.

Be careful.

Exactly and, sadly, very many people wouldn't be able to "prove" that they hadn't been there for all of those hours.

My point EXACTLY, there are always ways around the rules/law.
I were giving an example of methods that can occur.
Better to be safe than sorry.  Park your car hassel free, safe on my drive.
Don`t pay overpriced council/private parking in the borough.
Special price for the January sales.
£10 for 7 days

As I said elsewhere they do not have the right to fine you so dare say the small print said this was a charge that you had contractually agreed to by (allegedly) parking there

Exactly! There is always a way around things.  I can park my car in my own drive for free and catch a bus into town (also free with my gold card) thereby saving myself £10 a month to park on the opposite side of town :)

GoldCard the BEST thing about living in Derbyshire.  If not 4 the GoldCard I would have relocated out of the county instead of within

I'm back.

Somebody said "If you don`t have road tax, there are not many trafic wardens on the road"

To put the record straight there are no traffic (see the 2 f's) wardens on the road, vanished years ago.

With regards to parking on private land, do it and disregard any letters you get, read this site.
