They are public servants. They should get the public servants' pay rise. Either that, or lay them off and replace them with Polish MPs at half the price.

Members said they deserved an £86,250 salary in an anonymous survey conducted by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

Councillors also have the right to determine the allowances. Maybe a fairer way would to be to have a national set level for each type of council.
An idependent body recommends the level of the allowance. Even though Chesterfield's is one of the lowest (40% of Bolsover's) councillors unanimously decided not to take the increase while there is a freeze on local government workers wages.
Bristol MPs, 2 Tory and 1 Labour (Kerry McCarthy who was on the Chesterfield shortlist when Reg Race was the chosen candidate) have openly opposed this proposed pay rise.
