New constables will start at less in pay than previous recruits. Starting salaries will be cut by up to £4,259.
I wouldn't want their jobs these days.

Always worth remmebering when, in just over two years's time, these people pop up on election broadcasts, claiming to be the party of law & order.

Mmm, party of, no comment :-X

Mum worked at the cop shop in town for 20 years.
Her superannuation pension didn't make her nowhere near what was predicted.
Yes law and order can be undertaken for less than £20,000.
Shame people who want to do the job now don't get the same wage previous recruits did. Sign of the times ?

Like I said, sign of the times :(
The jobs are there, but on a lower level of pay. Ish.
Not sure about mum's pension. Just know she was disappointed with it.
30 years in a good secretarial position in all. 20 at the cop shop and 10 in social services.

Think they pay a bigger proportion of their salary into the pension fund than other parts of the public sector

I would like to see a return of the cadet system. Back then they were either well trained to become proper coppers or they quit at the end of training. I knew someone who when he left school I wouldn't have rated his chances in the police but he joined at 16, went through the ranks and ended up in a very senior position.
