Appears the borough can no longer justify a free dinner for the Mayor when they take office and propose to charge the great and the good £25 a head this year.
Me thinks the 200+ guest list might be a little lower.

Sorry Jon. That story means jack sh** to me without a link to the story/news article.

No link/ story I found it in the minutes of the council when I was searching for anything to do with the Law Centre.
I will explain.
Every year the town elects a new Mayor in May. This year it will be Cllr Paul Stone from Whittington, Next year Cllr Diouf from Walton.
The guest list would normally include all past mayors, 40 or so councillors plus partners, Aldermen and those individuals in receipt of Freedom of the Borough, reps from other councils and from other organisations that the council deals with like the Police the PCT etc etc. There would also be reps from all the community forums, and other public groups and sehior council staff.
Guest list would be 200+
In the past the council has picked up the tab
This year they propose that guests will pay £25 a head.
Will be interesting to see how many are actually prepared to pay.
and before anyone asks yes I've been twice, once representing my boss and once as an invitee as the incoming Mayor was a friend.

Have paid for other meals during the mayor's year as there is an outgoing one. There was a proposal (from a Labour member) about making the incoming one a paid do but that was defeated and I'm not aware of any decision since. I've also turned down some freebies (cricket etc)
On a similar subject some councils provide free slap up meals prior to meetings, we have a few sarnies if it's a 5pm meeting as most people come straight from work.
@JR-which ones did you attend?

Credit to the cost-conscious council, for holding several annual mayoral elections in one go! ;)

Margaret Higgins 1997 and Trudi Mulcaster 2006.
I also went to the Annual Council meeting in 1998 for Mike Fanshaw.
I'd probably have gone to 2009 and 2010 seeing as how I was Lead Officer for Walton and West and Kitch and Morgan were councillors there.
