There's no planning application for signage changes or such for the past year on the CBC's website.
Perhaps it is just a rumour, or an application hasn't been put forward yet.

Yes she did, if the new owners are prepared to spend some money on much needed refurbishment it could do ok, although there's some competition in the near vicinity (Spa Lane Vaults/Barracuda/Chandlers/Mucky Duck).

Not really competition for a restaurant??

Not really competition for a restaurant??

Not directly, maybe - but, in times of economic hardship they provide a cheaper alternative.

I guess you just have to pitch it so you aren't trying to compete with the £3-99 for a burger and a pint type offers :)

You can call in all of them there for a beer. You don't have to eat.
I presume a restaurant is a place you wouldn't call in just for a beer if you weren't going there for the food.
Might be confusing due to being located in an ex public house.

I'll reserve judgement until I've had a meal there. :)

Mmm, steak - lovely!

I reckon there are enough ex pubs that are now restaurants in Chesterfield to avoid confusion :)

Not much profit in good British steak though, hope they don't get greedy and buy South American rubbish, look at the mess the soilville steakhouse has become.

Sometimes in places like Soulville it can be a question of timing.
We went there for our Xmas do in early December sat down to eat at 6.30 20 odd of us. We all had a good meal.
2 hours or so later 20 odd of our colleagues went in for theirs. Not impressed.

Like a nice bit of steak, so will give it a go.
Good luck getting it up and running.
Couple of decent pints in Swan, followed by a nice steak down road  :D

Went past it yesterday afternoon and it was open according to a board outside, but the double doors on the front were shut ?!?!?

Certainly is open :)

Perhaps the entrance is via the double doors on the side of the building. :)

We could, but won't be. Sorry guys !  ::)
Wetherspoons mixed grill, 100yds up the Rd. About £8 with a drink thrown in.
Dougy's Meats, outside Job Lot. Staveley.  Big bag of steak for £10-20

To be fair the I'm not sure you can compare the food served at The Galleon with a Wetherspoons chain.

Outta my price range.
Don't think Soulville has to worry - not at those prices.

From what I have heard from people who have been recently, Soulville has more to worry about than their prices..

Me and the missus have had a meal at Wetherspoons Spa Lane Vaults the last 2 years at the forum meet up. December time.
We won't be paying those prices. Sorry if it it looks bad press on here :(

All the best to the Galleon, I hope they do well.
I didn't mean to sound condescending.  ;)
Title: Re: New "steak" restaurant....
Post by: pureparty on May 17, 2013, 09:53:29 PM
You didn't :)

It wouldn't be sensible to compete directly with a huge chain, so I guess you do something to differentiate yourself from the crowd and from what I have seen the Galleon aims to be on the high end when it comes to quality of the food, service and overall experience :)

(and just to be clear I have no affiliation or interest in the Galleon whatsoever... I have been inside though and it's certainly been very nicely renovated)

I've just looked the site and I can't see the menu/prices, probably because I'm on an iPad - not a great site for me.

Get what we pay for.
I suppose at those prices it should   be pretty good.
We would give it a go but it would be a place for special occasions rather than a
regular weekly meal out.
