Ok,, then. Let's say I'm a career criminal. I started doing burglaries when I was a nipper and worked my way up through Twoccing, ABH and crossing borders with drugs up my bum to become Britain's leading armed robber.

Call it ignorance, call it complacency, but one day I become careless, and leave my dabs at the scene of a crime. At 5am the next day I am woken by a commotion outside my house. I open my curtains to see wall-to-wall plod outside, waiting to nick me. Being the quick-thinking chap that I am, however, I open the window and shout "Too late, boys, I've retired!"

That'd work, wouldn't it?

His solicitor is already going down the route of 'the IPCC may think there is a case to answer but that doesn't mean he is guilty of anything'

However there's one issue here that you're missing.
The IPCC can do nothing because he is no longer a serving police officer.
But's there's nothing to stop the DPP charging him with perverting the course of justice.

I never said the law was fair, just that there is the chance for them to catch up with him.

Of course you'd like to think he would be serving that sentence in HMP Walton!!!!

No one should be above being taken to court to answer for wrong doings - even if they have retired from the work where there offence was committed

Totally agree - and would take that even further and say people of such rank, position and responsibility should be persued by the law with more rigor and thoroughness. Justice needs to be done and be seen to be done.
