Title: Are we too clean?
Post by: simondjuk on January 11, 2012, 08:33:47 AM
Do you think, that on the whole, we are too clean in day to day life?

There are constant adverts claiming that products kill 99.9% of bacteria and such like that I think thats why there are so many 'superbugs' about and people seem to fall ill more often.

Surely we need some kinds of bacteria that are harmful to build up our immunity to them?

Totally agree. We are bombarded with adverts scaring us into buying a ridiculous amount of cleaning products - and our kids, and their kids, grow up with a diminished immune system.

But guidance from the medical profession is virtually non-existent and instead of raising healthy offspring by keeping them super-clean new generations see a rise in folks getting every cold/flu virus, asthma, arthritis, etc.

Difficult call to make.

Good old fashioned soap and hot water is as good as anything imo. Depends what the cleaning job is I suppose, but this spraying dettol around thing ----- :o not needed imo. I do use a little bleach now and again, but hey --- soap and water is good isn't it?
Showering/bathing --- now I do shower daily and brushing my teeth is a MUST! I just could NOT feel human if I didn't!!

Totally agree - seems like common sense to me, unlike bringing up young children in an unnatural, sterile environment.

We are constantly fed with this nonsense. When I was a kid mom always said that a bit of dirt will only clean out the tummy :p In other words, it won't harm you.
To a degree I think that being too clean will make us more sensitive to bugs and bacteria, so no...I don't think it's a good thing.

I remember star drops and by doing a net search its still available to buy. I think a bit of grime does no harm at all, just some silly nut who has gone completly overboard!

I saw some stardrops in poundland awhile back, and picked a couple of bottles up they had two kinds in , one was the original with amonia in it.
