Brilliant. I had forgotten that there used to be a bit of an indoor market in that building near the bus station.  :)

Nice photo of the Red Lion on Vicar Lane its my favourite lost Chesterfield building what a shame its gone would have looked great restored and put to a new use well done to our planning department for losing a fine example of pub architecture. >:(

Fully   agree  ironsky,  imagine  what   Chesterfield  would  be  like  now  if  Hammersons  had  been  let  loose  in  the  70s,  no  market  hall,  no  open  air  markets, no  Shambles,  etc,  just  a concrete  box,  well  done planning  dept., good  thing  that  public  opinion  changed  things.

Looking at these again I'm wondering where the Presto's was and also the cabins in the photo above it?
It looks very familiar but can't remember where/what it was?

Presto was on Sheffield Road where Halfords is now. The portacabins were on Beetwell Street opposite where the police station is now.

Brilliant set of photos!  I always liked the one with Barbara Hepworth's 'Rosewall' sculpture. The switchboard room at the AGD (where I spent a couple of years on loan from BT) overlooked Rosewall.  Most of the time it was covered in graffiti, declared a 'bit of an eyesore' and generally not appreciated.  Little did we know of its true value.

Spotted another one with Hudsons shop on it.  I'm very nostalgic about Hudsons, for the 'record smell' the shop used to have, the staff that everyone knew and who seemed to know everyone too, and for the eclectic mix of genres that they used to keep.  Since Hudsons closed I'm quite drawn to indie record shops now.  There's a great one in Sheffield, and I also happened upon one in Cheltenham called Badlands who were fantastic in getting me tickets to see Rod Stewart in  Nottingham last year when everywhere else seemed to have either sold out or just had seats in the 'pigeon loft'.  Great bunch of folks  (y)
