Please take a minute to sign this petition - Pretty please :)
"We the undersigned oppose Derbyshire County Council's plans to close its Youth Centres and make up to 157 Youth Workers redundant. Under the Conservative led government young people are at risk of becoming a lost generation, being the target of national and local spending cuts. Young people are facing the highest unemployment levels in decades, the trebling of tuition fees, the abolition of the Education Maintenance Allowance and in Derbyshire are having to pay more for public transport because of the b_line cuts. They now face the loss of youth services which provide access to a wide range of social and cultural activities, health advice and general support. We call on Derbyshire County Council to retain the current directly provided universal youth service."

Where do I sign ;-)
-
Done and confirmed via email.
-
Already signed and confirmed :)
-
Tried 3 times but my name ain't appearing (unless I'm missing something) even though I've got confirmation email 3 times
-
Blame the previous gov, every body else does :D
-
Signed
-
I will sign on one condition.
DCC say they have to save £100m over the next 5 years.
that's £20m a year from where I am sitting.
So tell me what else will have to close/ be cut back if they don't do this?
It's all very well to have a knee jerk reaction to one particular policy decision but it has to be seen in the context of the bigger picture.

I was missing something I didn't verify the email response. Doh!
Please make sure you do the same.
-
Signed it and put it on my face book wall
-
Done
-
Thats 7 of you signed up but no-one saying where else the savings can be made.
-
Presumably from one of the secret pots of money that are going to help the wealthy retain their child benefit and fund the new railways, etc.
Or the secret pot of money that the UK will spend when we go to war with Iran?
Or one of the secret pots of money that financed our involvement in Libya? Afghanistan? Iraq? All wasted because when we leave we will have not improved anything - although I suppose spending billions on slaughtering hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children has some justification - but it would take an American to explain that to their English bitches.
There's always some money somewhere. And lets face it, out of all the measures being implemented at the moment, how much does the government spend on young people with currently one million of them out of work.
-
DCC don't have the secret pots of money, central government do. If central government don't hand it over (and let's face it if Tory DCC can't get it who can?) then savings have to be made.
-
You give up too easily Jon.
Your argument could be the starting point for more pressure put on central government to change their priorities.
They could crack down harder on the layabouts and spongers for a start off. They could stop having so many f*cking wars and wasting money on bollocks like the Olympics.
*ducks down and runs for cover*
-
You want to start a debate? Fine by me
Explain to me how much money has been 'wasted' on the Olympics?
-
I think that would make a great thread Jon rather than have it tacked onto this thread. Why not start a new thread along the lines of "Is there any real value in the Olympic Games"
-
*ducks down and runs for cover*
I hate to be pedantic Pete - but that should be eider down!!! ;D
-
Todays generation of young people are already lost because of Labours policys, I see them everyday, "You owe me a living."
My policy? Feck off
-
A bit of an over-simplification I feel.
Or are our employment officials that thick, a million unemployed youngsters fooled them all.
-
Thanks to all who helped. Much appreciated. :)
PS Youth unemployment up again today - well over a million now. :(

I was talking to a councilor friend who was at the meeting and apparently the young lad that organised the petition was actually at the meeting only to be something like it wasn't relevant or submitted incorrectly - don't quote me as I know nothing about council procedure.
16,000 people had signed that petition! And it counted for nothing to the arrogant Conservative councilors...
Makes my blood boil!
-
Perdantic arse oles. Enough probs with our teenagers drug taking/boozing getting them off the streets may save some from this. >:(

Pete, regarding your comment about me attacking Labour, I could say the same about you and the Tories. How many people signed anti war or anti road pricing petitions, amongst others, simply for the Labour Govt to ignore them.
-
Mea culpa! :-[
-
Just to make things perfectly clear Kev, if it had been Labour controlled and they did what the Cons did I would've said exactly the same thing.
Also, as I stated on there forums during the weekend, I am not a Labour supporter. When Blair took us to war my allegiance, such as it was, stopped.
George Galloway for PM!
-
Thats fine, I just wanted to introduce the pot to kettle, :) but if we all agreed on everything, then the world would be much duller.
George Galloway for celebrity big brother!
-
>> George Galloway for celebrity big brother!
Too late - he's been there, done that... :P
-
I didn't like him in that either. Personally think he's self conceited through and through.
Loves the publicity, but all for himself. Doesn't give a sh1t about anybody else.
IMHO ;)

Evidence to back that up?
