Title: Is Bolsover council under DCC
Post by: Old Cruser on June 17, 2013, 03:40:22 PM

This has been brought to my attention re-  a number of councils calling to the government for an end to the bedroom tax.
I notice NEDDC is on High peak and Bolsover but not DCC - would it be a councillor from Bolsover representing DCC who attended?

Need to scroll down to see the list of council who attended the summit

DCC have no input into housing as such so its unlikely they would add their name to such a call.
Surprised CBC is not on there though. Slacker?

Sorry JR I suppose I meant CBC - doesn't take long for me to get confused  :)
I was also thinking that CBC maybe ought to have had a rep there.
I wasn't sure if Bolsover came under CBC - didn't it used to be NED?

CBC, NEDDC and BDC have all existed independently of each other since 1974.
There was a campaign in the early 90's when the government were looking into re-organisation to merge the 3 authorities into one Unitary authority to look after all aspects of Local Government.

There are indeed various partnership agreements for things like building control and economic development where economies of scale can be achieved.
The trick is staying small enough to truly be a local council that residents can get at and not become just a huge bureaucratic machine whilst being large enough to take on major projects and attract grants

My understanding is that NEDDC and BDC have shared senior management and some services are also shared - it seems like a damned good idea to me, can't understand why CBC and NEDDC didn't do it as their offices are across the same car park.
