Title: Mansfield had a good idea?
Post by: Alsatian on July 06, 2013, 12:29:18 PM
Made a nostalgia trip yesterday to see the village (Farnsfield) and the pub my parents ran 50 odd years ago, plus a picnic at the side of the River Trent at Fiskerton (which is what my Mum and Dad used to do when they shut the pub up on Sunday afternoons). Then went on to have a look around Newark.

The Mansfield area has speed limit signs that are illuminated and show you what speed you are travelling at, if you are under/at the limit it lights up a 'Thank you' message, if you're over it lights up 'Slow Down'. I found this to be a good system and certainly better than the 'bog standard' speed limit signs normally used as it makes you more aware of your speed.

Anyone else think the same?

Seen them at Huthwaite so presume they are all over Notts. Think they are good for getting you to keep to the limit, as is the Satnav (when the info is correct)

I see a lot of these showing me the speed limit 'lit up', and the ones that light up the words 'Slow Down'  ::)

The signs are being fitted in lots of places now some show happy or sad faces depending on your speed ,I have put the wifes voice in my satnav saying you are speeding, I went down to Oxford to mother in laws  today and she never said a word daughter drove back and she never shut up.

Depends.
There was one at the bottom of the hill at Winsick on the road from the Temple Normanton junction. My kids used to urge me to drive faster to light it up!!!

Been past quite a few of these signs today to and from Waddington for the air show. Some of them seem a bit indiscriminate as to which car they are checking.
Did see one strange sign. It said 'check your speed'. So I checked it. I was doing 65 mph. Now what?

Think a few people missed the point of my post.  If I wasn't speeding, I wouldn't see them  C:-)

I passed one about ten days ago, the speed display read 91.7mph (I was doing about 28).

On Saturday my bathroom scales told me I weighed 19st 4lbs.

Could both have been wrong the same week...?
