Title: Creosote?
Post by: Alsatian on July 18, 2013, 07:02:10 PM
Does anyone know where I can buy 'proper' creosote? I've used creosote substitute on my shed for the last few years, but it needs doing two or three times a year to fully protect it, and it marks easily.

I've read on t'interweb that it's a restricted item due to its' carcinogenic properties - although tests show that less than 0.03% of people have been affected. It seems that it can now only be purchased by farmers or builders - although I could by it providing I wanted 25 litres of the stuff!

I think its  restricted because it is very harmful to domestic animals and wildlife. Someone I knew used it on their shed and their neighbours cat became very ill and were faced with huge vets bills. It didn't do neighbourly relationships much good.  :(
