The Guardian features Chesterfield - but the comments are a bit off the wall. Check this out:

There's some very, unfair, negative comments :(
-
Yeah - some people are very brave when they can post comments under an anonymous name.
The comment that caused me to laugh out loud was "It's like Rotherham except not quite as classy." :))
-
The bit about not centre only being for over 27's after 5pm made me chuckle - cos lets face it if it's still the same as the last time we ventured into town in the evenings, it's true.
-
Not sure about that OC - I go out regularly, mainly to see bands, or visit a pub and I'm 42!
-
Cough ::)
-
Try Night Nurse... :P

Not sure how much is from visiting the town and how much from researching stats. For instance Ashgate Croft is listed among the secondary schools with several omitted
-
Think you misread the article Andy. Though there are some wrong bits, especially in the comments.
Schools
Primaries: Cavendish Junior, Highfield Hall, Abercrombie, Holme Hall, St Mary's RC, Hasland and Old Hall are all "good", Ofsted says, with Brockwell Junior, Spire Junior and Ashgate Croft "outstanding".
Secondaries: Parkside is "good", with Ashgate Croft and Brookfield Community "outstanding".

A lot of negative stuff on there which is clearly unjustified IMHO.
I love Chesterfield - Born & Bred here.
I have no intention of moving anywhere else, put it that way.
Pete 42 - the words "arse" & "my" spring to mind :D

He's put that photo away Scimitar - reckons he's errr 'mislaid it' ;) ;D

Not misread it that was an error I was pointing out. Ashgate croft is an all ages special needs school yet is listed among secondaries whereas many other schools are mussed out. Presume they have just looked at a few recent Ofsteds.
-
My bad. I missed the 'second' reference to Ashgate Croft. :-[

Some decent, positive comments, on the whole - you can easily spot the ones from the more childish residents of neighbouring towns. Given that I have to walk though it to get away from work of an evening, I am bound to agree with this one about the nightlife, though:
Chesterfield's nightlife is the worst of both worlds; it's threatening AND desolate.
-
It's not a very balanced article for sure, but the majority of comments came from anonymous 'potty mouths' - seemingly people who only see the negative in everything.
Piss Alley indeed!
