Police can now give on the spot fines for lane hogging and tailgating.
Others are in the link below.
I like the one about pushing into queue's, it really annoys me when road works are being done and traffic is told the outer lane is closed lower down - always get the drivers who carry on and pass everyone then once their lane ends expect to be let in at the front.
Ican divulge - that I DON'T let them in >:

It appears odd, to me, that the fine for being impolite - pushing in on a roundabout queue - is the same as the fine for being downright dangerously stupid - using a mobile. If pushing in is worth £100 then using a phone should be automatic car crushing.

I agree Stuart. Impolite yes, but not dangerous.
If someone was paying me for a taxi journey, would the customer be happy with me joining a mile long queue, or would they prefer me to be cheeky and 'jump' the queue a bit ?
In future I'll have to stop being cheeky. Let the fare increase, then get called a robbing git.
Or face points and a fine !

It's all very fine, and most us would agree with the principle of tailgating, lane hogging, etc, etc.
But its like mobile phone users & everything else traffic related.
The Police do not have the finances currently to have "traffic cops" on the highways & byways to monitor these indiscretions.Allegedly.So , who's going to catch them?
But, if, when caught, it saves them (plod) paperwork, so they can issue a fine & points straight away without going to Court.
Personally, I think it will make no difference whatsoever.

Our_Lass thinks I hog the middle lane. I do, but I move if there's traffic behind me.

What is the advantage of a lengthy single line of traffic before a merge point? 'Zip merging' or 'merge in turn' i.e. one from one lane, one from the other is far better.

Heading from Spital on to Markham Road and wanting to turn left on Park Road you have to try to force yourself in to lane 1 if there is a queue of traffic as you come off the roundabout into lane 2
