Title: New wifi router :-)
Post by: Fly on August 23, 2013, 07:00:44 PM
Had an email last Sunday, (I'd been away), from TalkTalk, offering me a new, improved, faster, broadband wifi router. FREE  :?
So I filled the form in and pressed the 'Yes' button. It was delivered yesterday  ;)
Plugged it in set it up, logged on with the laptop, simples  8)

Err, it's not a deal faster than my old one. Sorry talktalk.  FAIL:  :P

How dismal is mine!! Mind you I do live down Dark Lane in Calow, with an Owl, and the big slithery thing that nests in the woods. Strange goings on around these parts, but I've been here nearly 30 odd years, so I guess that makes me part of it. I'm going to sharpen my scythe, polish my skulls, and then off to bed with my pipistrelles. :o

They are all poor.  I work with someone who averages 75mbps with his Broadband.  Doesnt live round these parts though.

We have had a letter from Talk Talk advising that they are improving their connection speeds in our area - so they are putting up their prices

Jeeze, I'm surprised you even get on the internet at that speed  :o

Sad thing is, it's not always TalkTalk's fault. If BT don't upgrade the phoneline system, TT can't deliver the speed.

According to the engineers that did our fibre broadband this is the more accurate test

http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (http://speedtest.btwholesale.com)

You can also feedback if you're not getting the promised speed

Hi

I live in Hasland here is my speed test

If I do the speed test using http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (http://speedtest.btwholesale.com) I get 66.82Mb 15.37Mb and a ping of 25.25 who to believe ? (BT is my ISP)

I don't know how I used to mange before, as we have 4 TV's internet connected, and can watch BBC IPlayer on all 4 TV's at the same time  :)

In addition I run a very low traffic web server on it as well.

If we were to move house 1 of the things on the list would be the speed of the internet, as I would not like to go back to a slower speed.

May I be as rude to ask how much a month it costs you Spire. I also presume it's cable/fibre ?

Hi

It's BT Infinity 2, which is fibre to the box, the box in my case is about 50 to 75mts from my house.

The cost is £26.00 pm for the package I have, plus line rental which is £15.41pm or £11.75 if paid anually like I do.

So total cost is £37.75pm for me, plus any call plans are additional.

I know it's expensive but I assure when u have had it you would not want to go back to a slower service, in addition the connection is rock solid, never slows down, and I never get the roundy thing when playing the I player.

My mate has Talk Talk and he only uses his internet from time to time, but he does not bother even trying to use it between about 4pm and 7pm he say's the connection keeps dropping and even when he has a connection it's o so slow.

I use my internet all the time all through the day, I also have CCTV on the network which I can view on my phone or tablet when I am out, keep a check on the wife  :)) , my son in law tried 1 camera on his internet to view when he was out of the house, and it killed his internet speed, I have 5 cameras on mine never even notice, any speed reduction.
