Title: The Stonegravels (pub aka Crown & Anchor)
Post by: poppy on September 14, 2013, 03:33:48 PM
It's looking pretty good. What do folks think to the change of name? Not sure when it's reopening but it looks like its nearly finished. The board outside says home cooked food so may give Chesters a run for it's money.

Pubs round the Proact ought to be thriving, ones round Saltergate have suffered from losing football fans

Yes, it does look very tidy.

Personally I am against a name change for any pub.

We were going for a meal at the Donkey Derby with the family - but on checking it out found they were not doing food on that day as Mansfield are playing Chesterfield and they were expecting trouble.

The Hunloke Arms is changing to The Wingerworth Pub

Donkey derby doesnt do food on match days and you get plastic glasses as well.. we made that mistake too... Not sure about name change or how they will do food as was quite small inside... Good luck to them though... Tis a shame that it had to close before it was refurbished though

I think it had a good group of regulars. Not sure if they will return. The landlady retired, I don't think it had anything to do with poor trade. We could do with a decent place to eat this side of town. I'm not keen on Chesters myself. Good luck to them. :)

Looks like the party gathering meal is  now re- directed to our house   ::)

Shame the matches affect pubs etc - it's peoples liveliehood isn't it.

The crown and anchor used to do a lovely Sunday lunch, was in the left hand side of the building. Was a nice pub we've had a few parties and christenings in it, was always the regulars there. St. Helens seems to be really busy recently, don't know if it will pull the trade back from there and donkey derby. Needs to be different, good food and selection of ales, not just the cheap lager.

I found out a work associate of mine used to use the pub regular for Chesterfield Town Football Club events.
Small world  ;)
