We have just returned from a trip out and called in at Peak Village.
Wondering why suddenly the roads leading up to and in to were coned, we turned to go to the car park to find wardens.
First Sunday Market it seems and a £1.00 each to get in (hubby was chuntering in the back ;) )
We even saw the people coming in through the path from the pub being stopped, so presuming they were being charged as well - can't be 100% on that one though as we didn't stand and watch what happened.
The stalls are all the way round and one stall holder informed us it was a sort of 'trial' if it's successful it will continue after Christmas.
They have put their Christmas Light's up and it looked quite pretty.

An admission charge for a market? How ridiculous! I can't see it continuing if they charge for entry, pretty lights or not.

Hubby wasn't too impressed Dave, it cost him £3.00 and we were only there an hour as needed to get back home.
Didn't seem to be many in the shopping outlets either but plenty of people round the stalls, so I'm guessing they won't be too pleased.

TBH I never thought very much about the place myself. It always struck me that it was a place to go for a cuppa tea or a coffee and a wander round looking for bargains.
I wouldn't pay to get in, but I might pay to get out... ;)

Never spend long there when we go, a lot of the better shops have gone. Can't see it's going to pick up if they charge.

Saw in the DT there had been an application turned down. Was/is this for the same said market ?

What did it say fly?

This weeks Matlock Mercury says the Markets have been stopped.
Seems the Peak Village went ahead with the market claiming to have gained 'verbal approval'
Meanwhile the council claim P/V are in breach of consent.
Ahh well at least we can park for free again on Sundays

Sorry OC, meant to have a look for a link to the DT article.
You know what it's like. So much to do and so little time :-X
