Title: Holywell Cross Car Park
Post by: poppy on December 01, 2013, 01:51:50 PM
Does anyone know anything about the building work which was supposed to be happening here?

The "Northern Gateway?" Put on hold, last I heard; knocked back by the Co-op closure and general lack of interest from a big supermarket, I think. Likely to be quietly forgotten about in the current economic climate, perhaps.

Whoever is going to develop the car park is going to have to pay a fortune to make sure the ground is stable.
The area is riddled with old cellars that are now unstable (that's why the fairs stopped).  Besides who is going to move here (apart from Tescos)? If you take away the car park where will people park to shop?

Thought they were building an underground car park, thus eliminating the problems of the old cellars? Any new builders would surely dig down to solid ground in any case would they not? :-\
