We watched the Coro episode last night where Haley took her own life.
I'm wondering how many would want to do as she did and if members think it's right or wrong.
Assisted suicide is against the law in the UK so people do go abroad to do this.
I'm wondering how this would unfold in the Coro case as Roy her husband let her take her life
Right or wrong?

This was debated on Vine (before the Corrie episode). Interestingly the widower of a woman who had tried to take her own life on a number of occasions said that towards the end of he life (I think she died of natural causes) she said she was glad she had the extra time

If she had took her own life, she wouldn't have enjoyed the extra time cos she wouldn't have been here.
If you know you are going to die, it should be your choice to terminate your own life, but it needs regulating.
No gov could just decide that it's ok to kill yourself over health issues.
You wouldn't do it to your dogs Andy, you love them too much to let them suffer :-*

Maybe it depends on the individuals prognosis and strengh in deaing with things.
What a position to be put in by a loved one though.
What would be the legal position for someone who didn't stop it but just sat back and watched?

Like I said, very difficult ground without regulation. Even then, some would flaunt the law.

I think, from memory, there have been several court cases, where partners who have assisted their loved one to die have been dealt with very leniently - whatever the judicial stance is lawfully.
I'm not saying its right or wrong, but it certainly needs reviewing.
If someone of a sound mind, who has the misfortune to have a terminal illness, decides that they want to end their suffering - so long as their family agree, and I suppose his/her GP - then why not?
No one's been murdered.
After all we can choose to end an unborn babies life within so many weeks of conception without quibble - the unborn child has no say in it!

It seems the episode attreacted 2 million extra viewers - I wouldn't have tuned in just to see someone commit suicide. Also distressed people were phoning Samaritans.
Good point about the abortions Scimitar.
How much courage would a person need though to do this - maybe the prospect of what lay ahead is to much
