Title: Smoking, cars, kids ?
Post by: Fly on January 29, 2014, 08:13:19 PM
Comments.

It's difficult for me. Must admit, if I ever started smoking again, I couldn't, and wouldn't, smoke in the house.
It's illegal to smoke in the taxi already. My car's my place, but with the Gkids in  ::) Don't think so.
Is it really asking too much or am I turning into a hypocrite. Sadly, I think I am. 16 month without a fag  ;)
That's both of us, not just me, respect where it's due  :)

Aren't they now going to bring a law in to stop the ecig being sold to under a certain age.

Having never smoked I have always invited smokers to go outside.

Smoking in cars should be banned totally. Years ago my Dad dropped his lit pipe in his lap - I learnt a lot of new words that day....

Which makes me wonder - it's ok to smoke whilst driving, yet it's an offence to eat whilst driving. If you drop a few crumbs on your lap you're hardly likely to lose control of the vehicle, however, should you drop a fag end (or lit pipe as per your post BD) you wouldn't be so casual about it!!

To me it's more dangerous to smoke..........although I don't condone eating or drinking whilst driving either, you should give 100% attention to the job in hand!  :o

Personally I think smoking should be banned altogether but the chance of that happening is about as much as me winning the Lottery.  So in the meantime....

Smoking with kids in the car should be banned - if you do, youre an idiot.
Smoking with non smokers in the car should be banned.  have some respect for other peoples health.
Smoking in the car on your own shouldnt be banned, its a private space

I also think the rules for smoking outside should be revised so they have to be further away from buildings (currently 10m from public buildings I believe).  Where I work, they tend to congregate around the corner puffing away and sometimes its like walking through fog.

They should put designated smoking areas within towns, cities, villages etc where you can smoke, anywhere else you get fined.

Main reason being the amount of revenue it creates.

E Cigs certainly seem to be taking off it would be interesting to see how that has affected baccy sales, though I suspect many buy illegal imports

You missed off VAT which is a further £2.6 billion.

Against that are the billions smoking costs the NHS, emergency services, industry, passive smoking, environmental - estimated at £14 billion p.a.

I stopped 12 years ago, but husband still smokes.  To be fair to him he'll go outside but if I get downwind of his smoke my chest goes tight.  That's the reason I gave up in the first place.

As for walking through the fog to get into pubs and other establishments, I have to hold my breath till I've got through to the other side.  :(
